The position is located in Sells, AZ.Position Summary:Under general supervision, performs work of routine difficulty in receiving and reviewing client applications and determining eligibility for program assistance.The work is normally reviewed upon completion, with occasional spot checks while in process, to ensure accuracy, timeliness and conformance to established standards; major work tasks are covered by instructions or procedures and unusual situations are referred to a supervisor.Essential Duties and Responsibilities: When assigned to Food Distribution Program:Receives new applications and reviews current certified recipients by travelling to various food distribution centers throughout the Nation.Records applicant's information and checks accuracy of income data with Social Services, Economic Security, Welfare, or other related agency or department.Makes home visits in order to complete and verify information as needed.Maintains all accurate and current information on certified recipients.Reviews applications and makes final determination of eligibility according to established policies, procedures, and guidelines.Performs other job related duties as assigned and Contributes to a team effort. When assigned to Family Assistance Program:Interviews applicants to determine eligibility for general assistance, financial aid, burial assistance, or emergency assistance. Records and evaluates personal and financial data to determine initial or continued eligibility according to established policies and procedures.Interprets and explains rules and regulations governing eligibility and grants, methods of payments, and legal rights to program clientele.Assists applicants in applying for financial assistance or aid; reviews applications for completeness, accuracy, and eligibility requirements.Authorizes the amount of grants based on eligibility determination.Identifies needs for other social services and makes referrals to various agencies and community resources.Monitors recipient case records; creates and maintains case files on all clients. Generates reports as required.Performs other job related duties as assigned and contributes to a team effort.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Knowledge of the Tohono O'odham culture, customs, and traditions.Knowledge of applicable federal, state, tribal laws, regulations and requirements. Knowledge in records management procedures.Knowledge of community resources and agencies.Knowledge of department organization, functions, objectives, policies and procedures.Skill in operating various word-processing, spreadsheets, and database software programs.Skill in providing superior customer service to external and internal customers.Skill in interviewing and counseling clients.Ability to communicate efficiently and effectively both verbally and in writing.Ability to establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships with other employees and the general public. Ability to maintain privileged confidential information. Ability to work independently and meet strict time lines.Ability to work extended hours and various work schedules.Ability to interpret applicable federal, state, county and local laws, regulations, and requirements.Ability to travel within the interior/exterior boundaries of the Tohono O'odham Nation.Minimum Qualifications:Associates Degree in Social Work or closely related field and two years' work experience in an administrative health field, or an equivalent combination of training, education, and work experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of this position.Licenses, Certifications, Special Requirements:Upon recommendation for hire, a criminal background and National FBI check is required to determine suitability for hire, including a 39-month Motor Vehicle Record.May require possessing and maintaining a valid driver's license, (no DUIs or major traffic citations within the last three years).If required, must meet the Tohono O'odham Nation tribal employer's insurance requirements to receive a driver's permit to operate program vehicles.Based on the department's needs, incumbents may be required to demonstrate fluency in both the Tohono O'odham Language and English as a condition of employment.
