Job Title
The New York Foundling has served people with developmental disabilities since 1974, beginning with children and gradually expanding services to all ages, including the growing population of elders with developmental disabilities. The Developmental Division strives to empower people with intellectual and developmental disabilities to live as they choose, actively engaged in the community, pursuing their goals and interests through a choice of supported residential options, health services, meaningful activities, and employment opportunities.
Responsibilities
The responsibilities include ensuring appropriate supervision, health and safety of individuals; implementing individual plan of protective oversight; advocating for individuals in the community; ensuring individual's plan of care is implemented; ensuring that individual medication is administered as prescribed; assisting in daily living skills; maintaining facility in compliance with the OPWDD and COA standards; facilitating individual's learning and skill training in fire safety; implementation and documentation of individual's goals; completing daily progress notes and other individual logs; maintaining updated certifications in CPR/first aid, SCIP, and AMAP; providing atmosphere conducive to positive behavior; observing, reporting regressive and unusual behavior and working cooperatively with clinical staff; planning and preparing balanced meals; cleaning and maintaining of the residential unit; assisting individuals with the purchase of groceries, clothing, hygiene supplies and other items needed; attending appropriate workshops, trainings, and meetings; assisting in providing spiritual development; assisting in providing ethical and moral values; transporting and escorting individuals on recreational activities, medical appointment, home visits, etc.; assisting in development of social skills; remaining on shift until your relief has arrived; and completing job related tasks as needed.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- AMAP, SCIP, CPR, and First Aid Certifications preferred.
- Valid NY/NJ/CT/PA Driver's License with 6 points or less required.
- Experience working with adults that have developmental disabilities.
- Demonstrated strong commitment to safety.
Education Required
High School / G.E.D.
Salary Range:
$19.00 + Education Additive ($0.15/hour Associate's Degree $.80/hour: Bachelor's or higher)
