Medical Assistant InstructorThe Medical Assistant Instructor is responsible for providing high-quality classroom, laboratory and clinical instruction and experiences to high school students enrolled in the Medical Assistant Career & Technical Education (CTE) program. The instructor prepares students with the knowledge, technical skills, professionalism and certification necessary to pursue employment as entry-level Medical Assistants or continue their education in healthcare-related fields. The instructor creates a safe, engaging and industry-driven learning environment and approach that aligns with Commonwealth of Pennsylvania educational standards, industry certifications and workforce expectations.The Medical Assistant Instructor prepares students to become compassionate, knowledgeable and highly-skilled healthcare professionals, while fostering professionalism, ethical behavior, lifelong learning and readiness for employment.Primary Duties and Responsibilities:Instruction and CurriculumDevelop and deliver engaging lesson plans that are aligned with state CTE standards and Medical Assistant competencies.Teach administrative and clinical medical assisting skills.Demonstrate proper use of medical equipment and clinical procedures.Integrate anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, pharmacology, infection control and medical/healthcare ethics into instruction.Differentiate instruction to meet diverse student needs.Utilize classroom technology and simulation equipment to enhance learning.Clinical Skills InstructionInstruct and supervise students in the following areas: Vital signs, Patient intake and history, Medical documentation, Medical terminology, Infection prevention and OSHA standards, Aseptic technique, Phlebotomy, Electrocardiograms (ECGs), Medication administration principles, Specimen collection, Assisting with examinations, Sterilization procedures, Basic laboratory testing, CPR and Basic Life Support (BLS).Classroom ManagementMaintain a safe, organized and professional laboratory environment.Enforce school policies and healthcare safety standards.Monitor student attendance, participation and academic progress.Maintain laboratory inventory and equipment.Ensure compliance with HIPAA, OSHA and Infection Control standards.Student AssessmentDevelop written, practical and competency-based assessments.Evaluate clinical skills according to industry standards.Maintain accurate student records and grades.Provide timely feedback and academic support.Prepare students for industry certification examinations.Clinical PartnershipsCoordinate clinical experiences, internships or job shadowing opportunities.Cultivate relationships with local healthcare providers.Professional ResponsibilitiesAttend faculty meetings and professional development meetings.Maintain current industry credentials and certifications.Participate in curriculum review and program improvement.Assist with student recruitment, open houses and community outreach.Maintain compliance with Pennsylvania Department of Education CTE requirements and accrediting agencies.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:Strong communication and interpersonal skills.Ability to motivate and inspire high school students.Knowledge of current medical assisting standards and practices.Understanding of adolescent learning and classroom management.Strong organizational and technology skills.Proficiency with Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems.Ability to establish partnerships with healthcare employers.Commitment to equity, professionalism and student success.Terms of Employment: 9 month, Student ScheduleYearly EvaluationPhysical/Mental/Environmental Demands:Physical DemandsFrequent walking and ability to stand for extended periods.Frequent bending, stooping, twisting, reaching, and grasping.Lifting up to thirty (30) pounds occasionally.Ability to demonstrate clinical procedures.Manual dexterity sufficient for demonstrating clinical skills.Ability to respond quickly during laboratory activities.Sensory AbilitiesVisual acuity to read correspondence and computer screens.Auditory acuity; must be able to use various communication devices.Ability to speak clearly and distinctly.TemperamentMust be courteous and able to deal effectively with people.Must be cooperative, congenial, and service oriented.Ability to work with limited supervision.Ability to be flexible.EnvironmentHigh School setting / Medical assisting laboratory.Medical assisting laboratory.
