Lead a High-Performing Labor & Delivery Team

 

Providence Swedish is seeking an experienced Interim RN Manager – Labor & Delivery to provide leadership during an important transition within its Women's Services department. This is an excellent opportunity for an established L&D Nurse Manager looking to make an immediate impact while positioning themselves for a long-term leadership role.

The organization is seeking a proven operational leader who can stabilize the department, mentor existing leadership, and drive positive cultural change.

This is a 6-month contract with strong potential for permanent hire.

 

About the Unit

• Approximately 217 deliveries per month
• Averaging 16–18 deliveries daily
• 6 OB Emergency Department rooms
• 10 Labor, Delivery, Recovery & Postpartum (LDRP) rooms
• Antepartum beds
• Expanded postpartum unit
• High-volume Labor & Delivery service experiencing seasonal growth

Responsibilities

• Provide operational leadership for a busy Labor & Delivery department.
• Coach and mentor the current Assistant Nurse Manager.
• Improve team culture, engagement, and accountability.
• Implement Daily Management System (DMS) processes and leadership routines.
• Increase leadership visibility through purposeful rounding and staff engagement.
• Improve patient flow, throughput, and operational efficiency.
• Foster a collaborative, patient-centered culture while maintaining accountability.
• Partner with physicians and interdisciplinary teams to support quality, patient safety, and exceptional patient experiences.
• Lead within a unionized nursing environment while supporting organizational goals and best practices.

Minimum Qualifications

• Active Washington RN license (or eligible for licensure)
• BSN required
• Previous Labor & Delivery Nurse Manager experience
• Experience leading high-volume Labor & Delivery departments
• Strong operational leadership and change management skills
• Experience coaching and developing frontline nurse leaders
• Experience leading unionized nursing teams
• Excellent communication, collaboration, and conflict resolution skills
• Current BLS certification

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, or related field
• Previous interim leadership experience
• Experience with Daily Management Systems (DMS) or Lean methodologies
• Experience improving patient throughput and capacity management
• Background leading department stabilization or culture transformation
• NE-BC or NEA-BC certification

Schedule

• Full-time, day shift
• Typically 6:30/7:00 AM – 3:30/4:00 PM
• Flexibility to periodically adjust hours to provide leadership support for night-shift staff
