About the Position

ICU RN Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Neuro ICU Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 3x12 (19:00 - 07:30) Experience: 2 years (preferred) License: Active RN state license Certifications: BLS, ACLS (Required), CPI and NIHSS (Preferred) Must-Have: Neuro ICU experience is highly preferred. Ability to float within the specialty as needed. Willingness to work every other weekend and holidays as scheduled. Description: The role involves providing critical care to patients in the Neuro ICU. Nurses will manage complex neurological and neurosurgical conditions. Common diagnoses include acute ischemic stroke, intracerebral hemorrhage, and traumatic brain injuries. The average daily census is 21 patients with a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:2, increasing to 1:3 for stable, lower acuity patients. Registered Nurses will utilize specialized equipment such as ICP monitors, mechanical ventilators, and telemetry systems. Collaboration with interdisciplinary teams, including neurology and neurosurgery, is essential. Frequent neurological assessments and hemodynamic monitoring are required. Common procedures include ICP monitoring, EVD placement, and management of critically ill neurological patients. Nurses should expect to participate in the care of patients requiring complex interventions like targeted temperature management and continuous EEG monitoring. Strong assessment, critical thinking, and communication skills are necessary for success in this role.
