Sign Language Interpreter in Metairie, LA

Job Description

Step into a dynamic educational environment as a Sign Language Interpreter, supporting high school students in a vibrant setting near the New Orleans area. This contract opportunity offers full-time hours (35 hours per week, Monday through Friday) through the end of the academic year. You'll play a vital role in facilitating communication, ensuring accessibility, and empowering students on their learning journey.

Qualifications:

Fluent in American Sign Language with substantial experience as a Sign Language Interpreter.
EIPA score of 4.0 (written required) and current listing on the Louisiana Interpreter Registry (LCDC Interpreter Registry - Dept. of Health).
RID or NIC credentials accepted, provided written qualification is also met.
Successful completion of district-required fingerprinting and drug screening.
Adaptable to serve a high school caseload (specific students/schools assigned TBD).

Responsibilities:

Accurately interpret classroom instruction, discussions, and school activities for high school-aged students.
Collaborate with educators and other staff to provide seamless communication support and ensure student inclusion.
Maintain confidentiality, professionalism, and adhere to ethical standards within the educational environment.
Adapt to a varied caseload and contribute to student progress by fostering a supportive, accessible schooling experience.
