Peterbilt of New York City is seeking an experienced and results-driven Heavy-Duty Truck Service Manager to oversee daily service department operations. The Service Manager will lead service advisors, technicians, and support staff to ensure high-quality repairs, excellent customer service, efficient workflow, and strong departmental profitability. The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge of heavy-duty truck repair, diesel engine diagnostics, preventive maintenance, and service department management.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee daily operations of the heavy-duty truck service department, ensuring efficient workflow and timely completion of repairs.
• Supervise, coach, and develop service advisors, diesel technicians, and other service personnel.
• Assign repair orders and manage technician productivity, scheduling, and workload distribution.
• Monitor labor hours, technician efficiency, billed hours, and departmental profitability.
• Ensure excellent customer service by addressing customer concerns, complaints, and service-related issues promptly.
• Review repair orders, estimates, warranty claims, and invoices for accuracy and completeness.
• Coordinate with parts, warranty, accounting, and other departments to ensure smooth operations.
• Monitor service department performance, including labor sales, gross profit, customer satisfaction, and turnaround time.
• Ensure compliance with company policies, safety regulations, environmental requirements, and manufacturer standards.
• Maintain quality control standards and ensure repairs are completed correctly and safely.
• Manage shop equipment, tools, facility maintenance, and inventory coordination.
• Develop and implement procedures to improve productivity, reduce costs, and increase customer retention.
• Support warranty administration and ensure proper documentation for manufacturer warranty claims.
• Recruit, train, and evaluate service department employees.
• Prepare and review service department reports, budgets, and performance metrics.
• Maintain strong relationships with fleet customers, independent truck owners, and commercial accounts.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of experience in heavy-duty truck service operations, diesel repair, or a related field; management experience preferred.
• Previous experience managing a truck dealership service department or commercial vehicle repair shop strongly preferred.
• Strong knowledge of diesel engines, heavy-duty trucks, vehicle diagnostics, and repair procedures.
• Experience with service department management systems, repair orders, warranty processes, and labor operations.
• Proven leadership, team building, and employee development skills.
• Strong customer service, communication, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Knowledge of service department financial performance, labor sales, and profitability.
• High school diploma or equivalent required; technical training or additional education preferred.

Preferred Skills

• Experience with Peterbilt trucks, PACCAR products, and related diesel technologies.
• Familiarity with dealership management systems and service scheduling software.
• Understanding of warranty administration and manufacturer service procedures.
• Experience working with commercial fleets and heavy-duty truck customers.
