Job Description: Water Quality Technician Lead Position Title: Water Quality Technician Lead Employer: Innovative Attraction Management Location: Gaylord Pacific Resort and Convention Center Employment Type: Full-Time, Year-Round Compensation: Competitive Pay, Based on Experience (Rate TBD) Job Summary: The Water Quality Technician Lead is responsible for overseeing water quality operations, regulatory compliance, and preventative maintenance of pools, spas, water features, and aquatic systems at the Gaylord Pacific Resort and Convention Center. Employed through Innovative Attraction Management, this leadership role ensures all aquatic facilities operate safely and in compliance with San Diego County, California State, and Cal OSHA/DOSH regulations. The Water Quality Technician Lead serves as the primary resource for the Water Quality Technician team, providing daily leadership, training, scheduling support, quality control, accountability, and operational oversight. This position is responsible for directing daily operations, ensuring completion of all required inspections, testing, maintenance activities, and operational checklists, while holding team members accountable to company standards, safety requirements, and performance expectations. In addition to performing water quality testing and maintenance, the Lead ensures tasks are completed accurately, efficiently, and in compliance with all applicable regulations while maintaining the highest standards of safety and guest satisfaction. Leadership and Team Oversight: Lead, mentor, and support Water Quality Technicians in daily operations. Assign and prioritize daily tasks to ensure all testing and maintenance responsibilities are completed. Provide hands-on training and coaching to new and existing team members. Monitor performance and ensure all work is completed according to company and regulatory standards. Conduct routine audits of water quality records, chemical logs, and operational procedures. Serve as the point of contact for water quality concerns during assigned shifts. Follow up with Water Quality Technicians throughout each shift to ensure all daily inspections, testing logs, maintenance tasks, and operational checklists are completed accurately and on time. Monitor and verify completion of all daily operational checklists, inspections, water quality logs, and maintenance assignments. Review completed checklists for accuracy, address deficiencies, and ensure corrective actions are taken when necessary. Hold team members accountable for performance, attendance, safety procedures, and operational standards. Provide coaching, counseling, performance feedback, and corrective action recommendations as needed while documenting and communicating concerns to management. Address performance deficiencies promptly through training, mentoring, and follow-up to ensure compliance with company policies, regulatory requirements, and departmental expectations. Water Quality Testing and Monitoring: Conduct and oversee daily water quality testing (e.g., pH, chlorine, alkalinity, temperature, and other required parameters) for pools, spas, and water features. Use testing equipment and interpret results to ensure compliance with San Diego County and Cal OSHA/DOSH regulations. Adjust chemical levels as needed to maintain safe and balanced water conditions. Verify the accuracy of testing performed by Water Quality Technicians. Monitor automated chemical control and monitoring systems. Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all water systems comply with San Diego County Environmental Health regulations and Cal OSHA/DOSH standards. Maintain accurate records of water quality tests, chemical usage, maintenance activities, and incident reports. Prepare and submit required reports to management and regulatory agencies as needed. Assist with inspections conducted by regulatory agencies. Stay informed of changes to applicable local, state, and federal regulations. Maintenance and Troubleshooting: Perform routine maintenance on pool equipment, including pumps, filters, chemical feeders, controllers, and circulation systems. Identify and resolve issues related to water quality or equipment malfunctions. Coordinate with maintenance staff, engineering teams, or contractors for repairs as necessary. Support and oversee preventative maintenance programs. Ensure all aquatic systems remain operational and guest-ready. Safety and Training: Ensure all safety protocols are followed, including proper handling, storage, and transportation of chemicals. Train staff on water quality testing procedures, chemical safety, and emergency response protocols. Conduct routine safety inspections of chemical storage and equipment areas. Ensure compliance with Safety Data Sheet (SDS) requirements and hazard communication programs. Stay updated on changes to local and state regulations and implement necessary adjustments. Customer and Staff Communication: Communicate water quality issues, closures, operational changes, and maintenance requirements to management and staff promptly. Address guest concerns related to water quality in a professional and courteous manner. Work collaboratively with resort departments to minimize operational disruptions and maintain guest satisfaction. Emergency Response: Respond to water quality emergencies (e.g., chemical spills, contamination events, equipment failures) in accordance with established protocols. Assist with evacuations or facility closures if water quality poses a safety risk. Complete incident documentation and communicate findings to management. Provide leadership and direction during emergency situations involving aquatic operations. Qualifications: Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. Certification in pool operations (e.g., CPO - Certified Pool Operator, AFO - Aquatic Facility Operator) required or ability to obtain within a designated timeframe. Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience in water quality testing, aquatic facility operations, or pool maintenance. Previous leadership, supervisory, or lead experience preferred. Familiarity with Cal OSHA/DOSH and San Diego County regulations for aquatic facilities. Experience in a resort, water park, municipal pool, or large commercial aquatic facility preferred. Skills and Knowledge: Advanced knowledge of water testing techniques and equipment. Strong understanding of chemical handling and safety protocols. Ability to interpret and apply regulatory requirements. Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills. Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills. Ability to maintain accurate records and documentation. Physical Requirements: Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions. Ability to stand, bend, kneel, climb, and walk for extended periods. Ability to safely work around chemicals and mechanical equipment.
