The successful candidate accepting this position may be required to file Conflict of Interest forms subject to the regulations of the Fair Political Practices Commission.Housing, Dining & Conference ServicesThis is a one-year probationary appointment.Full-Time (1.0 FTE)Wednesday-Sunday 8:00 AM-4:30 PM$3,461.00–$3,601.00/month ($41,532.00–$43,212.00 annually)Salary is commensurate with experience.Under the general supervision of the Associate Director for Housekeeping Services (or designee), the Housekeeper provides comprehensive custodial services for San Francisco State University Housing facilities and performs lead work direction on an as-needed basis, primarily during peak operational periods such as summer and winter turn, conference season, and large-scale occupancy transitions.The incumbent performs the full range of custodial duties in residential, conference, and common areas and may provide temporary lead support to assigned staff and temporary employees, including coordinating work, training, and ensuring quality standards are met during high-demand periods.This position plays a critical role in maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for residents, staff, and guests, while supporting operational readiness during critical housing transitions.Custodial Cleaning & MaintenanceClean and maintain residence halls, apartments, offices, lounges, kitchens, restrooms, and conference/event spacesPerform unit turnover cleaning, including deep cleaning and sanitization of residential units to meet occupancy standardsSweep, mop, vacuum, shampoo carpets, and perform floor care (strip, seal, wax, polish)Clean and disinfect restrooms; replenish soap, paper products, and sanitary suppliesDust and clean surfaces, fixtures, vents, walls, windows, mirrors, partitions, and furnitureRemove trash, recycling, and compost; transport to designated collection areasClean graffiti and maintain exterior walkways, stairwells, and entrywaysPerform pre- and post-event cleaning and ensure proper room resetsLead Work Direction (Seasonal)Provide lead work direction during high-volume operational periods such as housing turnoverAssign and coordinate daily work for temporary and/or student staffTrain staff on custodial procedures, safety practices, and proper equipment useProvide task-specific guidance to ensure timely completion of unit turns and project workMonitor and inspect work for quality, completeness, and adherence to standardsProvide real-time feedback and direction to support productivity and efficiencyAssist with onboarding and training of seasonal staffCommunicate priorities, timelines, and expectations during fast-paced operational periodsCustodial Operations & Event SupportSupport large-scale operational efforts such as move-in/move-out, summer conferences, and break transitionsCoordinate workflow and task completion during high-volume periodsSet up and break down furniture and equipment for events and programsInspect facilities for cleanliness, readiness, and safetyRespond to custodial emergencies (spills, floods, biohazards, urgent clean-up needs)Lock/unlock and secure facilities to ensure safety and access controlPerform minor maintenance (e.g., tightening fixtures, replacing bulbs)Report facility issues, maintenance needs, and safety hazardsEquipment, Supplies & Inventory ManagementOperate and maintain custodial equipment (buffers, extractors, vacuums, carts, auto scrubbers)Monitor inventory levels and notify supervisor of supply needsEnsure proper handling, use, and storage of cleaning chemicals in accordance with SDS guidelinesMaintain equipment in safe working condition and report repair needsSupport sustainable and green cleaning practicesCustomer Service & Team CollaborationProvide responsive, courteous, and professional service to residents, guests, and staffCommunicate effectively with supervisors and team members regarding work status and needsSupport team-based assignments and collaborate with others as neededParticipate in staff meetings and trainingOther Duties as AssignedMinimum QualificationsAbilitiesAbility to read and write at a level appropriate to the duties of the position; follow verbal and written instructions to ensure safety; operate and care for custodial equipment and supplies applicable to the position; use custodial systems such as those used to track work orders and two-way radios for communication; observe safety requirements and safe work practices and methods as required; perform work involving regular physical activity; and establish and maintain cooperative work relationships.
