Registered Nurse (RN) Interventional Radiology

Registered Nurse (RN) – Interventional Radiology Location Sherman Hospital – Elgin, IL Shift & Schedule Day Shift – Monday through Friday. Start time 8:00 a.m. IR call after 16:30 weekdays; rotational 24‑hour weekend and holiday coverage. Full time – 40 hours per week. 8‑hour shifts. Procedures Paracentesis, thoracentesis, drain placement, tube checks, biopsies. Embolization, peripheral angiograms with interventions, Y‑90 procedures, TIPS procedures. Responsibilities Use the nursing process to assess patient needs, plan and implement individualized care, evaluate effectiveness, and involve patients and families. Anticipate and respond to significant changes in patient condition, adjusting care plans and mobilizing resources. Implement strategies to reduce risk and increase safety, assessing learning readiness and developing education plans. Coordinate discharge planning collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams. Apply evidence‑based practice and nursing regulatory standards in all care activities. Evaluate outcomes, support shared governance, and initiate process improvements. Communicate effectively, provide feedback, resolve conflicts, and delegate appropriately to unlicensed personnel. Promote a culture of safety, report near‑misses, and assist in corrective action implementation. Apply ethical decision making and treat all peers with respect. Participate in quality/process improvement initiatives and professional development activities. Demonstrate age‑specific patient care knowledge and apply department policies accordingly. Licensure & Registration Registered Nurse license issued by the state in which the nurse practices. Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification from the American Heart Association. Education Completion of an accredited or approved nursing program. Experience Typically requires one year of clinical nursing experience. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Holistic patient care with focus on patients and families. Coordination, collaboration, delegation, and team‑building abilities. Certification Addendum Maintain annual educational requirements for hospital‑based certifications (e.g., DNV, CARF). Physical Requirements & Working Conditions Must sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, reach, and twist frequently. Lift up to 50 lbs. from floor to waist; 20 lbs. over head; carry 40 lbs. a reasonable distance. Push/pull with 30 lbs. force; perform sliding transfer of 150 lbs. with a second person. Use foot pedals on carts or machines. May be exposed to chemicals, hazardous waste, blood, body fluids, and communicable diseases; protective clothing required. Functional speech, vision, hearing, and fine hand manipulation for IV insertion and other procedures. Operate equipment necessary for the job.
