A well-established law firm is seeking an experienced Healthcare Counsel to join its Healthcare Practice Group. This role offers the opportunity to advise hospitals, health systems, medical staffs, physician leaders, and peer review bodies on complex healthcare matters involving governance, credentialing, privileging, bylaws compliance, peer review, regulatory issues, and related disputes.

 

The ideal candidate will be a trusted advisor who can provide practical legal guidance, manage sophisticated healthcare matters, and collaborate closely with physicians, executives, and institutional stakeholders. This position is suited for an attorney who enjoys counseling clients, navigating complex regulatory frameworks, and addressing sensitive issues impacting patient safety, medical staff operations, and healthcare governance.

Key Responsibilities

• Advise hospital medical staffs, medical executive committees, and healthcare leaders on governance, bylaws compliance, and operational matters
• Counsel clients regarding credentialing, privileging, peer review, and medical staff affairs
• Draft and revise bylaws, policies, governance documents, hearing materials, and related legal documentation
• Support peer review proceedings, fair hearing processes, and related disputes
• Provide legal guidance on healthcare regulatory, administrative, and compliance matters
• Conduct legal research and prepare memoranda, briefs, and other substantive legal documents
• Assist with litigation and administrative proceedings involving healthcare providers, medical staffs, and healthcare organizations
• Collaborate with physicians, executives, and institutional clients to develop practical solutions to complex legal issues

Qualifications

• J.D. from an accredited law school
• Active membership in the California State Bar
• 8+ years of legal experience
• Strong legal research, writing, analytical, and client counseling skills
• Ability to manage multiple matters and serve as a strategic advisor to clients
• Experience in healthcare regulatory work, litigation, administrative law, employment law, professional licensing, compliance counseling, or related practice areas
• Experience with medical staff law, peer review, credentialing, privileging, hospital governance, healthcare compliance, or physician licensing matters is strongly preferred
• Excellent judgment, professionalism, and ability to communicate complex legal issues clearly and effectively

• Base Salary: $175,000 - $230,000 , depending on experience and qualifications
• Counsel positions are not on a partnership track
