TheWrap is seeking an experienced weekend news editor for its Los Angeles newsroom. The weekend news editor would join our edit desk and be expected to edit and assign copy as well as to write stories for the site, leaping on breaking stories in the media and entertainment news space. The weekend news editor will be responsible for running news coverage on Saturdays and Sundays working alongside a news writer, while also working three weekdays in our Los Angeles office. The ideal candidate will be highly organized, energetic and capable of multitasking in a high-pressure breaking news environment. This is a full-time position that is currently in a hybrid work-from-home model requiring two days per week in TheWrap’s Los Angeles office. Working hours are 9-6 p.m. PT. Breaking news skills and a thorough knowledge of industry and consumer-facing entertainment are required. What We’re Looking For: At least 3-5 years experience working in a fast-paced newsroom Top-notch line-editing and copyediting skills A player-coach who’s as comfortable assigning and editing as writing themselves Exceptional communication and managerial instincts Comfortable working independently and juggling multiple tasks at once Superior news judgment Passion for Hollywood industry news and its players Topical knowledge in news media, politics and current events Proficient and speedy on a CMS such as WordPress Ability to crop, resize and source photographs Social media savvy Typical pay for this role is $80,000-$85,000, depending on experience TheWrap is seeking a highly organized and creative Marketing Strategist to support two areas of the business: revenue generation and brand marketing. This role will serve as a key partner to the Sales team, developing marketing materials, advertiser solutions, and sponsorship concepts that help drive revenue. At the same time, the Marketing Strategist will support TheWrap’s brand initiatives by developing campaigns that promote our products, events, newsletters and editorial franchises. The ideal candidate is equal parts storyteller, strategist, and project manager and is someone who can turn ideas into sales materials, marketing campaigns that drive engagement, and keep multiple initiatives moving forward simultaneously. Essential Functions: Brand Marketing & Campaigns Partner with TheWrap’s design team and ideate, produce and to promote our events, newsletters, and new product launches. Assist with marketing campaigns from concept to execution. Support the rollout of new products and initiatives with integrated marketing plans. Sales Collaboration and Revenue Generation: You will serve as the primary Marketing contact for TheWrap’s sales team, ensuring advertisers and partners are presented with the most compelling, current, and effective solutions. Serve as the day-to-day partner for the sales team, translating advertiser needs into ideas and packages. Brainstorm and develop creative concepts and sponsorship packages tailored to advertiser goals. Build sales presentations and one-sheets, ensuring materials always reflect TheWrap’s latest offerings. Collaborate closely with the sales team to proactively create pitches and ahead of outreach cycles. Assist with other ad hoc marketing initiatives as needed. Accountability/Supervision: Reports directly to Marketing VP Working Conditions: 40 hours/week – full time. In the office Monday through Thursday, Remote on Fridays. This is a high-profile role for a journalist who can understand the financial nuances of media companies and extract key insights and context — delivering them in stories written with voice and authority. You will oversee and elevate our coverage, working closely with our media and finance beat reporters to break news, sharpen analysis and deliver the kind of must-read stories that define the conversation. You’ll also take the reins of a weekly newsletter, shaping it into an indispensable read for executives, insiders and anyone tracking the challenges facing the media business. Areas within media include news organizations in the broadest definition, from shifting winds at CBS News to social media platforms like Facebook and TikTok to Paramount’s pending acquisition of Warner Bros. What You’ll Do: Edit and elevate: Work closely with our media and finance beat reporters to refine, sharpen and elevate daily coverage — from breaking news to enterprise stories and analysis. Write with authority: Produce your own reporting and commentary on the biggest media stories of the day, with a clear voice and point of view. Own The Media Front and our finance-oriented The Ledger : Lead, write and curate our weekly newsletter, delivering sharp insights, scoops and must-know developments to an influential audience. Drive the agenda: Identify the stories that matter before they become obvious — from dealmaking and layoffs to strategy shifts across media companies. Develop sources: Build and maintain a deep network of industry contacts across the media and finance worlds. Collaborate across the newsroom: Work with reporters covering film, TV, tech and business to connect the dots and ensure TheWrap is ahead of the story. What We’re Looking For: 7–10+ years of journalism experience, with significant time covering media and finance. A proven track record of editing and shaping high-impact stories. A strong, confident writing voice — analytical, informed and engaging. Deep knowledge of the media and business landscape. A demonstrated ability to break news and deliver insight, not just follow the cycle. A strong understanding of the economics of Hollywood, and how to pull out relevant insights from earnings report Experience producing or leading a newsletter or recurring editorial product is a major plus. The ability to move quickly without sacrificing accuracy — and to thrive in a fast-paced newsroom.
