Front Counter Sales

  Location: Vista
Schedule: Full-Time | Onsite Yard/In-Office Role (Includes Occasional Saturdays)
Compensation : Hourly rate,  $19.00 – $20.00, depending on experience

The Role

Devil Mountain Wholesale Nursery is seeking a customer-focused Front Counter Sales professional to serve as the primary point of contact for walk-in customers and first-time visitors to the nursery.

This role owns the front counter experience, greeting customers, processing transactions, guiding plant selection, and ensuring orders are handled accurately and professionally. Front Counter Sales directly contributes to daily revenue by converting walk-in traffic into completed sales while maintaining strong communication with Yard and Sales teams.

Success in this role requires strong plant knowledge, confidence in customer interaction, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple transactions in a fast-paced environment.

What You’ll Do

• Welcome and engage walk-in customers in a professional and service-driven manner
• Assess customer needs and guide plant selection
• Process sales transactions accurately using POS and inventory systems
• Support will-call check-in and order pickup
• Provide product availability, specifications, and location guidance
• Communicate with Yard staff to ensure efficient order fulfillment
• Support the Sales Team with estimates and order entry as needed
• Determine wholesale vs. non-wholesale status for trade customers
• Participate in inventory counts and company initiatives

What You Bring

Required

• Sales and customer service experience
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Confidence handling live customer transactions
• Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office and POS systems
• Ability to manage multiple customers and processes simultaneously
• Bilingual English/Spanish

  Preferred

• Nursery or landscape industry experience
• Plant identification and product knowledge
• Inventory system experience

Work Environment

This is an onsite position with no remote option available.

The role requires extended periods of sitting or standing, extensive typing and 10-key use, and frequent transitions between indoor office and outdoor yard environments. Exposure to varying weather conditions and uneven ground surfaces may occur.

Lifting up to 20 lbs approximately 20% of the time may be required. PPE is required as applicable.
