Description: Compile health information by reviewing, cataloging, and checking medical reports for completeness. Organize medical reports for placement in files. Review charts to ensure all reports and signatures are present. Type health information forms, including preparing charts for new admissions and filling out necessary forms. Prepare requests for specific reports or certificates. Compile and type statistical reports, such as daily and monthly census, admissions, discharges, or length of stay. File reports into health information records and maintain logs. Retrieve health information records in the filing system. Provide information from health information records after determining the appropriateness of the request. Coordinate with other departments regarding health information records procedures. Knowledge of health information technology and regulations governing medical record keeping is crucial. Familiarity with medical terminology is required. Skills in using word processors and calculators are necessary. Ability to solve problems involving a limited number of variables in a familiar context is essential. The role requires writing routine business letters, evaluations, or records following standard procedures. Proofreading medical reports to recognize errors is part of the responsibilities. Recognize when medical records information is missing and gather, collate, and classify information about data, people, or things.
