Join us.Job DescriptionAECOM is seeking a Travel Demand Modeler to join our Arlington, VA office, supporting a diverse portfolio of transportation planning and modeling projects across the Mid-Atlantic and nationwide.This role is suited for an early-career professional interested in developing technical expertise in travel demand modeling, data analysis, and modeling-related software tools. You will work within a collaborative team of approximately 10 modelers, supporting senior staff and contributing to model development, analysis, and project delivery.We are particularly interested in candidates with an interest in dynamic traffic modeling or Activity-Based Modeling (ABM), along with a demonstrated curiosity for coding and software development, including exposure to Python and/or C++.This is a hybrid work position, with flexibility depending on project needs.Key ResponsibilitiesSupport the development, calibration, validation, and application of travel demand models (trip-based and/or activity-based)Assist in implementing and maintaining travel demand models and related toolsSupport application of mode choice models and discrete choice frameworksContribute to analyses using dynamic traffic assignment (DTA) and multimodal modeling approachesAssist with data preparation, model inputs, and performance evaluationSupport troubleshooting of model runs and assist in resolving technical issuesHelp ensure quality, consistency, and reproducibility of modeling outputsContribute to integration of modeling tools, scripts, and workflowsAssist senior staff with technical documentation, reports, and presentationsCollaborate with interdisciplinary teams of planners, engineers, and analystsQualificationsMinimum RequirementsBachelor’s degree in Engineering, Transportation Planning, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, or related fieldBasic programming experience in Python, R, C++, or similar languagesExperience working with Excel and data analysis techniquesExposure to GIS platforms (ArcGIS Pro, QGIS)Preferred QualificationsMaster’s degree in a related fieldRelevant experience, including internships or academic researchStrong problem-solving, analytical, and communication skillsExposure to travel demand modeling toolsInterest in developing coding and analytical skillsAcademic or project exposure to Activity-Based Models (ABM) and/or Dynamic traffic modeling or network analysisFamiliarity with or interest in COG/TPB travel demand models (Gen2 or Gen3) or travel modeling applications for MPOs or DOTsLearning or using C++ for modeling applicationsWriting efficient, well-structured codeExposure to Big data sources (RITIS, StreetLight, Replica, TomTom), visualization tools (Power BI, Tableau) and cloud environments (AWS, Azure)Interest in modeling workflows, automation, and emerging toolsAdditional InformationRelocation is not available for this position.Sponsorship for US employment authorization is not available now or in the future for this position.At AECOM, we are committed to maintaining a secure and trustworthy recruitment process and take any fraudulent hiring activity seriously.
