Summary: The Access Representative plays a vital role in registering patients in both adult and pediatric emergency departments. This position involves completing the registration process for emergency patients and managing direct admits to the emergency department. Additionally, the representative collects patient liabilities upon discharge when appropriate.

Education: Medical Terminology certification is required within 90 days of employment.

Experience: One to two years of insurance or clerical experience in a hospital or medical office setting is preferred. Familiarity with insurance processes and payment collection is advantageous. Proficiency with Microsoft Windows and basic computer functions is necessary.

Requirements: Ability to type and perform data entry efficiently to meet departmental productivity standards. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential. Demonstrated customer service skills with diverse populations are preferred. Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and multitasking abilities are required to handle the dynamic needs of patients, families, and visitors. Flexibility to work rotating shifts and regular days off may be necessary.

Physical demands include the ability to communicate clearly, see, and hear to collect information. Dexterity to operate office equipment and the ability to sit or stand for extended periods are required. The work environment involves low to moderate noise levels, frequent use of telephones, computers, and other business machines. Tasks may include bending, reaching, pushing, pulling file drawers, transporting patients, and assisting with baggage. Regular lifting of up to 10 pounds, frequent lifting of up to 25 pounds, and occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds are expected.

This role is based in a regional healthcare setting serving the Southeastern United States.
