About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse - Pediatric Psych Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Psychiatric Unit - Pediatric Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 7P-7A Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 1 year of Behavioral Health nursing required; Pediatric Behavioral Health experience preferred License: State License Required Certifications: BLS required, MOAB obtained on site as part of orientation Must-Have: - De-escalation experience - Experience with physical restraints - Comfortability to run groups - Proficient documentation skills Description: As an essential member of the pediatric psychiatric unit, you will be instrumental in providing care to a diverse population. You will assist in the treatment of patients aged 5-18 years old facing various psychiatric challenges. Common diagnoses include eating disorders, depression, suicidal ideation, anxiety, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and oppositional defiant disorder. You may be required to float between pediatric and adult units as needed. The facility provides traditional medical and psychiatric care alongside specialized therapies, including pet therapy and group sessions. Patient ratios typically include 1 nurse for every 5-6 patients during the day and 1 nurse for every 13 patients at night. Ongoing support from management and an interdisciplinary team ensures a collaborative work environment. You will have opportunities to act as Charge Nurse, though this is not mandatory. The use of seclusion rooms may be necessary, and patients are medically cleared before admission. A focus on safety and de-escalation protocols is paramount. Training and support for de-escalation and patient care practices will be provided throughout your tenure. You will participate in scenario-based training every other week to enhance your skills.
