Regional Vice President - Property Management

The Regional Vice President provides strategic leadership and oversight for a significant portfolio of residential properties, leading a team of up to two Regional/Area Managers while also directly managing assigned residential communities. This role is accountable for driving operational excellence, ensuring compliance, and maximizing portfolio performance and value. Through strong leadership, financial acumen, and innovative business strategies, the Regional Vice President partners with leaders across the organization to align regional operations with company objectives, strengthen team performance, and achieve strategic goals while upholding the organization’s values. The Regional Vice President serves in both a regional leadership capacity and, for designated communities, as the direct Regional/Area Manager responsible for property-level operations and performance.

We are seeking an experienced and results-driven Regional Vice President (RVP) to provide strategic leadership and operational oversight across a multi-state portfolio, with a primary focus on properties in Maryland and Virginia. The RVP is strongly preferred to be based in Maryland or Virginia, given the regional scope of the role and the need for regular on-site presence at assigned communities. The RVP may also oversee properties in other states and will be responsible for driving operational excellence, financial performance, team development, and overall property performance across the assigned portfolio.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Leadership and Management

• Provide strategic leadership and support to Regional/Area Managers in developing and executing business plans for each community, establishing clear priorities, goals, and performance expectations.
• Conduct regular leadership meetings with Regional/Area Managers to review performance, discuss challenges, evaluate progress against business plans, and identify opportunities for improvement.
• Conduct regular one-on-one meetings with direct reports, including Regional/Area Managers and, where applicable, property-level team members at directly managed communities, providing coaching, mentoring, goal setting, performance feedback, quarterly check-ins, annual reviews, and conflict resolution.
• Manage employee relations and HR matters, partnering with Human Resources as appropriate to ensure consistent application of company policies and practices.
• Lead and coordinate onboarding, training, mentoring, and professional development initiatives to strengthen team capabilities and foster a high-performing culture.
• Conduct regular site visits across the portfolio and maintain an appropriate on-site presence at directly managed communities to engage with team members, assess operational effectiveness, walk the property, address issues, and identify opportunities for improvement.
• Partner with the VP of Property Management to ensure regional teams remain aligned with organizational objectives, strategic initiatives, and company values.

Asset Performance

• Serve as the Regional/Area Manager for assigned residential communities, assuming direct responsibility for the day-to-day operational, financial, and team performance of those properties.
• Develop and continuously refine community business plans in partnership with Regional/Area Managers, reviewing progress on a weekly, monthly, and quarterly basis and proactively identifying opportunities to improve financial and operational performance.
• Monitor performance against established business plans and recommend strategic adjustments or pivots when market conditions, asset performance, or business priorities change.
• Assist the VP of Property Management in ensuring execution of current business plans, providing timely recommendations and strategic direction when changes are needed.
• Lead the annual budgeting and reforecasting process, utilizing cash-flow analysis and financial insights to identify risks, opportunities, and strategies to maximize asset performance.
• Review routine Regional/Area Manager audits across all communities to ensure operational standards, policies, and procedures are consistently followed.
• Review maintenance audits and monitor preventive maintenance inspections to ensure properties are well maintained, operational standards are met, and potential issues are proactively addressed.
• Analyze operational and financial trends across the portfolio and collaborate with Regional/Area Managers to implement strategies that improve performance, efficiency, and overall asset value.
• Provide support for investor relations and property marketing initiatives as needed.

Resident Relations

• Promote a resident-focused culture across the portfolio, ensuring Regional/Area Managers and community teams maintain high standards of service and responsiveness.
• Monitor community operations and property conditions to identify issues that may impact resident satisfaction, retention, or the overall resident experience.
• Partner with Regional/Area Managers to proactively address recurring resident concerns and develop strategies to improve resident satisfaction and retention.
• Ensure property teams balance resident service with operational and financial objectives while maintaining consistent company standards.
• Support the resolution and escalation of significant resident concerns, ensuring issues are addressed professionally, consistently, and in alignment with company policies.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education

• Bachelor’s degree preferred.

Required Experience/Skills

• Seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in property management, including five (5) years of supervisor experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
• Proficiency with accounting, property management, HR, payroll, project management, and related business systems.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
• Strong financial, analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills with the ability to develop effective solutions.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to clearly present and interpret operational and financial information.
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships, manage conflict, maintain confidentiality, and collaborate effectively.
• Demonstrated leadership ability to motivate, influence, and hold teams accountable for achieving business objectives.
• Proven ability to coach, mentor, develop, and retain high-performing teams.
• Ability to provide constructive feedback, recognize performance, and foster a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
• Demonstrated sound judgment, professionalism, adaptability, and the ability to remain composed in challenging situations.
• Yardi experience preferred.
