NP/PA - Trauma Critical Care

Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) Or Physician Assistant

The Hackensack University Medical Center APP Trauma Service provides direct and indirect patient care optimizing patient safety to a patient population consisting of, but not limited to, clients from GI/GU, thoracic, vascular, neurosurgery, GYN oncology, trauma, OB-GYN, and orthopedic subspecialties. 24/7/365 coverage rotating with the APP team.

The Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) or Physician Assistant utilizes a patient-centered coordinated care model, demonstrating competencies in leadership, direct clinical practice, consultation/collaboration, coaching/guiding, research, and ethical decision-making. The APP works collaboratively with the practice/hospital team to assess, plan, and implement care for individuals with health and safety needs.

Responsibilities include performing and documenting accurate, complete, and relevant history and physical assessments appropriate for the patient's age, gender, and clinical problem. Ordering, performing, and interpreting laboratory tests and diagnostic studies/procedures in collaboration with physicians and consultants as appropriate. Managing general medical and surgical conditions based on comprehensive knowledge of etiologies, risk factors, pathophysiology, and the indications and contraindications of pharmacologic agents and other treatment modalities. Prescribing medication safely and effectively in accordance with best practices, hospital policy, and NJ regulations, providing patient education as needed.

Additional responsibilities include promoting Hackensack Meridian Health (HMH) APN practice recognition through conferences, publications, and presentations. Providing care that is patient- and family-centered, compassionate, and effective for the promotion of health and treatment of disease. Practicing as a healthcare provider according to the rules and regulations of the Medical Staff and bylaws as outlined in the delineation of privileges. Adhering to HMH nursing protocols, standards of care, and disease-specific quality indicators.

Qualifications include a graduate of an NLN/AACN accredited nursing program, a Master's or Doctorate degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program, and maintaining clinical competencies through continuing education and clinical practice. Experience in a relevant patient care setting is also required, along with a National Provider Identifier (NPI) and prescriptive authority through CDS and DEA registration according to New Jersey state law. A collaborative agreement with physicians on staff is necessary, along with excellent written and verbal communication skills and proficient computer skills.
