Position Summary: The BSS provides support to participants with behaviors that make it difficult for them to be active in their community and to live at home, including behaviors that may be disruptive. Support will be provided in the appropriate locations such as the home setting, work, vocational/school and the community.

The BSS will have the opportunity to maintain a flexible, yet consistent schedule with individuals. Individuals are located within Berks, Lancaster and Lebanon Counties.

Summary of Essential Position Functions:

· Behavioral Specialists (BSS) provides support to waiver participants with behaviors that make it difficult for them to be active in their community as well as living at home.

· The Behavioral Specialist creates the Behavioral Support Plan. The Behavioral Support plan helps everyone who is in regular contact with the participant to support him or her. This service includes providing training for family members and providers to support the participant and teach him or her appropriate skills to be more independent and active within their community.

· The Behavioral Specialist works closely with the Supports Coordinator to ensure that other or additional services are provided according to the Behavioral Support Plan.

· The Behavioral Specialist also creates a Crisis Intervention Plan. The Crisis Intervention Plan explains how to help the participant if he or she is going into a crisis. 

· Behavioral Specialists can also provide support to participants in acquiring, retaining, and improving communication, socialization, self-direction, self-help, and adaptive skills necessary to reside in their community. Behavioral Specialist will help facilitate the participant’s social interaction; use of natural supports and typical community services available to everyone as well as participation in education and volunteer activities when appropriate.

· The Behavioral Specialist will follow goals and objectives as listed on the clients Individual Support Plan (ISP).

· Completion of required paperwork related to data collection, progress reporting, encounter forms and development of annual planning material, as well as any additional paperwork as required.

Qualifications:

· Master’s Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Education or a closely related field. Successful completion of training in conducting and using a Functional Behavioral Assessment (FBA Certification/BSS 101/BSS 102/SPeCTRUM 2.0)

Valid Pennsylvania drivers license along with reliable transportation

Education/Experience/Credentials:

· Behavioral Specialist must be at least 18 years of age or older, have a minimum of a Master’s Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Education or a closely related field

· FBI Fingerprint (if there was residence outside of Pennsylvania within the last 2 years) and Pennsylvania State Criminal must be current.

· Successful completion and maintenance of all required trainings developed by the Bureau of Autism Services.
