• Always verify the specimen is appropriate for tests ordered
• Always place "date received" on all reagents and supplies
• Always check for expired dates and discard when expired
• Properly utilize sharp containers for disposal of needles and syringes
• Continually keep up with updates required by department
• Order and process tests on outpatients as they come in
• Perform drug screen collections as they come in
• Collect samples at the Nursing Home when needed
• Collection of patients in the Emergency Department and patient rooms
• Collection of blood samples using the appropriate technique for infants, adolescent, adult, and geriatric
• Maintain the laboratory collection area and trays neat, clean, and well supplied
• Responsible for safety of patients and self during all laboratory procedures
• Use laboratory equipment, supplies, and time in the most efficient manner possible
• Ensure that all written information is neat and clear
• Maintain education and development appropriate for position
• Adhere to established hospital and department guidelines and protocols
