Park Worker 3 (John Jay Homestead)

Duties Description Duties of the Park Worker 3 will include but not be limited to: Perform semi-skilled maintenance and repair activities in a variety of trades such as carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical repairs. Perform building and ground maintenance and cleaning activities. Operate and perform routine maintenance on a variety of power-driven mechanical equipment including trucks, tractors, mowers, line trimmers, and power saws. Operate and perform routine maintenance on a variety of mechanical systems including fire detection and protection system, HVAC, and water treatment system. Assist with pruning and tree trimming activities involving the operation of chain saw, stump grinder, bucket truck, and chipper. Assist with traffic control and parking of vehicles. Assist in building and repairing roads, paths, picnic tables, benches, trails, and park equipment. Assign, supervise, review, train, and evaluate work of lower-level employees. Assist in emergency situations by applying emergency procedures and practices, assisting, and directing staff, and working with patrons to minimize potential problems. Maintain records including those pertaining to daily maintenance, Automated External Defibrillator, and personal timekeeping. Assist in snow removal, shoveling, and operate vehicles to plow snow during the winter months. Act independently with a minimal amount of direct supervision. Assist and direct staff and work with patrons to enforce park rules and ensure proper customer service. Assist in other areas of park operations as needed. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications One year of experience in the operation and/or maintenance of a park, historic site, golf course, or recreational facility; OR - One year of experience in any of the following fields: Law enforcement or security Firefighting Emergency Medical Services Environmental education or stewardship Natural resources management (e.g., forest management, wildlife management/preservation) Historic preservation or interpretation Landscaping or grounds maintenance OR - One year of military service in any branch of the United States Armed Forces; OR - Thirty (30) semester credit hours* of college-level coursework from an accredited college or university; Your credit hours must have been awarded by a college or university accredited by a regional, national, or specialized agency recognized as an accrediting agency by the U.S. Department of Education/U.S. Secretary of Education. If your degree was awarded by an educational institution outside the United States or its territories, you must provide independent verification of equivalency. OR - Completion of a two-year technical/trades school program; OR - Two years of experience as a trade assistant working under the direct supervision of a skilled tradesperson. Additional Comments Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license that allows the candidate to operate a vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment. Must be able to perform medium to heavy physical labor. Must be able to work a variable schedule that may occasionally include weekends, evenings, and holidays. Must have the ability to operate a chainsaw and must complete OPRHP Sawyer Training or equivalent within the probationary period and maintain it as a term and condition of employment. This training will be provided by OPRHP. Must obtain a Grade "C" Water Operator's Certification within the probation period. Preferred Qualifications Experience performing facility and operations work in a park setting or related field.
