Pathologist Assistant | University | Days

Overview Responsible for the dissection and description of gross anatomic features of all surgical specimens under the supervision of the attending pathologist. Performs postmortem examinations including external exams, in-situ organ inspection, evisceration, organ dissection, and dictation of clinical findings. Works in conjunction with the histology team and pathologists to troubleshoot and maintain quality standards in the lab. Models appropriate behavior as exemplified in MLH Mission, Vision and Values. Responsibilities Dissects and describes gross anatomic features of all surgical specimens. Selects and identifies tissue for microscopic study and obtains medical records/charts for review. Assists pathologist with eviscerations and gross anatomic dissection. Performs postmortem examinations including external exam, in-situ organ inspection, evisceration, organ dissection, and dictation of findings. Performs specialized procedures such as frozen sections and decalcification. Photographs specimen samples as appropriate for use in instruction and documentation. Performs other job functions as assigned or requested. Education and Formal Training Required: Bachelor's Degree in Science. Preferred: Master's Degree in Pathology Assistant. Experience Requirements Required: Pathology 1-3 years of experience. Licenses and Certifications Preferred: Pathologists’ Assistant ASCP. Key Skills and Abilities Basic knowledge of human anatomy. Understanding of safety, infection control and ability to identify and correct conditions that affect employee safety. Demonstrated ability to perform work accurately and thoroughly. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and laboratory software. Ability to utilize available time to organize and complete work within given deadlines. Ability to design and conduct a systematic, objective and critical investigation. Ability to formulate a sound decision using available information. Supervision Provided by this Position No supervisory responsibilities are assigned to this position. Physical Demands Climbing, pushing, standing, hearing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, stooping, and repetitive motion. Must have good balance and coordination. Medium work: exerting up to 50 lbs of force occasionally and/or up to 20 lbs of force frequently. Close visual acuity, including color and depth perception, and field of vision.
