GENERAL PURPOSE

The Associate Director is a crucial member of the James E. Tobin (JET) Library’s senior management team, partnering with the University Librarian in matters of fiscal management, facilities planning, strategic initiatives, and library policy. The person in this role functions as Number Two in the organizational structure and serves as its technical lead. In addition, as Head of Electronic and Digital Services (EDS), the Associate Director oversees Electronic Resources, Archives and Special Collections and Access Services, to ensure these three distinct departments align with institutional priorities and initiatives.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• As Head of EDS, acts in the capacity of the Technology Lead by:

  • Implementing and managing interface customizations and integration of commercial products (Library Systems, e.g. Primo Discovery and ArchivesSpace as well as third-party vendors (e.g., SpringShare and Digital Commons).

  • Serving as the library webmaster within Molloy’s CMS environment and overseeing content contributed by any library CMS editors.

  • Supporting and/or leading a concurrent variety of digital initiative projects across multiple areas of oversight.

  • Continuously monitoring and improving the library’s online presence, including its website and integrations across web-based services into institutional systems.

  • Leading and/or participating in usability testing, analytics analysis, and assessment of the library’s virtual spaces.

  • Ensuring the implementation of consistent digital/web accessibility in adherence to WCAG standards.

  • Maintaining current awareness in web and digital content technologies.

• As Associate Director, assures financial stability and accessibility for the overall library by:

  • Partnering with the University Librarian toward developing and implementing strategic initiatives and goals, working in close collaboration in terms of overall library budgeting, policy, operations, and staff.

  • Managing budget expenditures for electronic resources, archives/special collections, and patron services, including the library's physical space in coordination with the Access Services Librarian.

  • Providing leadership and technical guidance toward improving library resource offerings across a variety of platforms and devices, including those that intersect with institutional resources (e.g., Canvas).

• Serves as a professional representative and library leader to Molloy and the wider community by:

  • Participating in campus initiatives such as accreditation, mission-related events, and orientation for new students and faculty.

  • Representing the library on campus-wide committees and taskforces.

  • Collaborating with other departments on campus, e.g. Office of Blended and Online Learning, Accommodate/Access, and IT to ensure stability and easy access to electronic resources and digital products.

  • Serving on external professional committees, including participation in meetings and attending national and international events.

• Fulfills the essential functional expectations for all academic librarians by:

  • Participating in reference shifts serving all Molloy patrons both in traditional and virtual environments.

  • Teaching instruction classes in research and information literacy to groups or individuals as assigned.

  • Maintaining a high level of proficiency in all library databases and resources; learning new technologies or resources and adapting to new methodologies as required.

  • Remaining current with developments in librarianship, seeking ongoing professional development opportunities on a continual basis.

  • Facilitating collection development efforts as an assigned subject(s) liaison, particularly when a new degree program is developed or is part of an accreditation/reaccreditation process.

  • Creating and maintaining LibGuides in assigned subject areas.

  • Other tasks as assigned.

REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Master's degree (ALA-accredited MLS or MLIS.)
  • A second master’s degree and/or demonstrable experience in technology/computer science field are required for the rank of Associate Director of Electronic & Digital Services.
• 3 to 5 years of work related experience
• Microsoft Office (Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, Word)
• Databases (Library related)
• Web Development (CMS web content)
• Web Services (API's, coding and scripting languages (e.g., HTML., CSS, JaveScript, Python)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Knowledge in Archives and Records Management and Copyright.
• Knowledge and/or experience utilizing visualization products and platforms, e.g., Tableau, Power BI to aggregate large amounts of data or usage trends, and certification in Ex Libris Primo and/or Alma.

SALARY INFORMATION

When determining the salary offer for a new employee, Molloy considers several key characteristics such as job knowledge, skills, and experience as well as internal and external equity. The hiring annual salary for this position is $85,000 to $100,000. This annual salary represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of compensation at the time of posting.
