Senior Field Service Technician Location: Pennsylvania, PA Job Id: 1110 | # of Openings: 1 The Senior Field Service Technician will lead testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting of electrical systems from low to high voltage (480V–600kV) at power plants, substations, and industrial facilities. The role includes mentoring junior technicians, supervising crews, and ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards. What You’ll Do Lead advanced testing, commissioning, and maintenance on LV–HV equipment (480V–600kV) Use diagnostic equipment such as Doble, TTR, Power Factor, Tan Delta, VLF, DC Hi-Pot, and resistance testers Test and verify electromechanical, solid‑state, and microprocessor‑based protective relays Develop and execute commissioning procedures and test plans for new or upgraded systems Supervise field crews, assign tasks, and enforce safety, quality, and compliance protocols Complete reports, test results, and job documentation using Power DB and other platforms Interface with customers to provide updates, gather requirements, and ensure satisfaction Enforce safety practices, LOTO protocols, and PPE usage on job sites Maintain tools, test equipment, and company vehicles in safe working condition Mentor and train junior technicians Troubleshoot and resolve field issues independently and on‑site Support emergency response and planned shutdown/start‑up projects Follow strict safety and PPE protocols due to noise, electrical hazards, and elevated work areas The Experience We’re Looking For 7–10+ years of hands‑on experience in the power industry, including P&C systems and field commissioning Strong knowledge of substation equipment, MV/HV breakers, and electrical system troubleshooting Proficient with Power DB, Microsoft Office and Teams Familiar with OSHA, NETA standards, and electrical safety procedures Prior experience leading crews and mentoring field technicians Ability to develop and execute test plans for complex upgrades and installations Comfortable managing shifting priorities and working with minimal supervision Additional Requirements Willingness to travel 75% across the continental U.S. High school diploma or GED required Valid driver’s license Must pass a pre‑employment background check and drug/alcohol screening Legally authorized to work in the United States Available for extended and irregular hours as needed Able to work outdoors in all weather, at heights (100+ ft), in confined spaces, and near high‑voltage equipment and heavy machinery Physically capable of lifting 50+ lbs. and sustaining extended physical activity Requires good vision, hearing, and English proficiency for safe, effective communication in noisy environments Bonus Points for Completion of a trade school program, technical college, associate degree, or skilled trade certification Prior experience working in power plants, utilities, or heavy industrial environments Familiarity with relay settings development or advanced system protection analysis NETA Level III certification (journeyman or equivalent accepted) Additional safety certifications or OSHA 30 A TWIC card Supervisory experience on complex commissioning projects Benefits Competitive Compensation – Overtime potential and merit‑based raises Full Benefits – Medical, dental, and vision coverage fully paid for employees, starting the month after hire Steady Employment & Career Growth – Promotion potential within a fast‑growing company 401(k) with Company Match – Traditional & Roth options + free investment guidance Top‑Tier Equipment – Provided to support you in the field Compensated Travel Time plus Per Diem – Earn while seeing new places Education Support – Paid training, certifications, and industry memberships Generous PTO – Paid vacation, holidays, and sick leave Employee Assistance Program – Legal, financial, and mental wellness support Equal Opportunity Statement RMS Energy is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
