Job Title: Yard Driver (Monday to Friday, 5:00 AM – 1:30 PM)

Job Description

This role operates and moves tractor-trailers within a distribution yard to support warehouse operations and delivery activities. The yard driver ensures equipment is safe and compliant, maintains proper temperatures for refrigerated trailers, and completes all required transportation documentation in line with regulatory and company standards.

Responsibilities

• Walk the yard regularly to inspect vehicles, identify defects, and document findings in DVCR booklets.
• Communicate maintenance needs promptly to designated team leaders and support staff.
• Obtain tractor and trailer lists, record odometer readings, hub readings, and engine hours, and submit this information to the lease company on a weekly basis.
• Ensure trailers containing refrigerated products such as cheese and chicken are maintained at appropriate temperatures.
• Coordinate with warehouse team members to ensure they have trailers available to unload and load as needed.
• Assist with unloading trailers when required to support efficient warehouse operations.
• Reposition tractors and trailers within the yard, moving them to and from loading docks safely and efficiently.
• Comply with all chock, safety cone, and dock signal light policies while operating in the yard.
• Shuttle tractors and trailers to and from logistics suppliers as directed.
• Transport trailers to wash facilities and ensure they are properly cleaned.
• Assist with backhaul operations as needed.
• Support drivers on designated routes by assisting with unloading product at store locations when assigned.
• Respond promptly and professionally to direction and requests from management and drivers.
• Consistently wear the required uniform and adhere to all dress and safety standards while on duty.
• Attend scheduled safety meetings, team meetings, and training sessions.
• Follow all local, state, and federal regulations, as well as all internal safety rules, policies, and procedures.
• Participate in classroom instruction facilitated by delivery and service leadership, including training on chock, safety cone and dock signal light policies, accident procedures, and other relevant policies and instructions.
• Maintain DVIR (Driver Vehicle Inspection Report) booklets accurately and up to date.
• Comply with all Department of Transportation (DOT) log regulations.
• Maintain accountability for the assigned vehicle and the product being transported.
• Accurately clock in and out using timekeeping and PeopleNet systems.

Essential Skills

• Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with air brakes endorsement.
• Current and valid DOT medical certification (DOT Med Cert).
• At least six months of verifiable commercial motor vehicle (CMV) driving experience; one year preferred.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to consistently meet defined motor vehicle record (MVR) standards to remain qualified to operate commercial motor vehicles.
• Ability to comply with DOT log regulations and maintain accurate documentation.
• Availability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, holidays, and occasional short-notice assignments.
• Ability to stand and walk for long periods, climb stairs, and frequently lift up to 50 lbs and occasionally up to 100 lbs.
• Ability to perform heavy pushing and pulling of product.
• Ability to work in refrigerated environments (approximately 33–38 degrees), outdoor weather conditions (rain, sleet, heat, snow), and areas with loud machinery.
• Strong attention to safety policies, procedures, and regulatory compliance.
• Minimum age of 21 years.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• One year or more of verifiable CMV driving experience is preferred.
• Experience transporting freight or working in transport and logistics environments.
• Comfort using electronic timekeeping and onboard systems such as PeopleNet.

Work Environment

This position is based in a distribution yard and warehouse environment with a Monday to Friday schedule from 5:00 AM to 1:30 PM, with flexibility required for nights, weekends, holidays, and occasional short-notice work. The role involves frequent standing and walking, climbing stairs, and lifting up to 50 lbs regularly and 100 lbs on occasion, along with heavy pushing and pulling of product. Work conditions include refrigerated areas at approximately 33–38 degrees, outdoor exposure to varying weather such as rain, sleet, heat, and snow, and regular proximity to loud machinery. The position requires the use of tractors, trailers, and related yard equipment. A uniform is required, and team members must follow all dress code and safety requirements while on duty.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Hayward, CA.

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $30.00/hr.
