Business Office Clerk (PRN)

Job Details Title: Business Office Clerk (PRN) Responsibilities Under the supervision of the Director Business Operations, the Business Office Clerk is responsible for ensuring that duties are accurately performed in completion of, but not limited to, the following areas as assigned: registration and pre‑registration of all categories of patients; preparing consent forms appropriately for each procedure; ensuring that copies of appropriate documentation are obtained to facilitate the billing and collections processes; giving estimates of charges; ensuring that co‑payments and payments on patients’ accounts are explained, obtained and processed accurately; completing daily batching of patient payments collected (check, cash or credit card); ensuring that all information entered into the automated admitting/registration system is accurate and complete; preparing medical records for all first‑time patients and updating medical records for return patients as needed; using Meditech or other automated billing systems; posting payments, adjustments, rebilling, refunds and write‑offs on accounts; following up on all types of payers; receiving and dealing with patient calls; resolving problem accounts as required; managing correspondence; filing as necessary; verifying payments to contracted rates; and achieving departmental goals regarding collections. The Clerk works with medical records clerks, billers and adjudicators, schedulers and registration personnel to maintain accurate records that facilitate valid reports regarding billing and collections, performs all other duties as assigned, upholds the business office philosophy and objectives while adhering to federal and state guidelines including CMS, Medicare and OIG requirements, projects a professional demeanor and appearance while maintaining the confidentiality of patients and coworkers, maintains good communications with other staff and internal and external customers, such as keeping the Director of Business Operations advised of any problems, works under stress and in situations that demand patience and tact while providing impeccable service, and assists in daily functions in the business office.
