Job Highlights:
- Department: Respiratory Therapy
- Schedule: PRN, Night Shifts from 7 PM to 7 AM, 1 to 2 shifts per week
- Shift Differentials: Available for night, weekend, and extra shifts
- Location: Healthplex facility
The Respiratory Therapist is responsible for delivering advanced respiratory care to patients in critical and emergency situations. This position demands strong clinical judgment, expertise in complex respiratory therapies, and the ability to operate effectively and independently in high-pressure, fast-paced environments.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Initiate and manage peripheral IV access, assisting with IV therapies in accordance with facility policies.
- Conduct arterial and venous blood gas sampling and assist with laboratory specimen collection.
- Support respiratory function and patient safety through appropriate splinting and positioning.
- Accompany physicians during examinations and procedures as necessary.
- Monitor patients undergoing conscious sedation, ensuring airway management, oxygenation, ventilation, and continuous assessment.
- Set up, operate, adjust, and monitor both invasive and noninvasive ventilator support, including modes, settings, alarms, and troubleshooting based on patient needs and provider directives.
- Administer noninvasive ventilation therapies such as BiPAP, CPAP, and high-flow oxygen delivery systems.
- Conduct thorough respiratory assessments, reassessments, and documentation, including breath sounds, work of breathing, ABGs, and ventilator parameters.
- Recognize changes in patient respiratory status and respond appropriately, including escalating care and collaborating with the healthcare team.
- Engage in emergency response situations, including rapid response and code events, providing airway and ventilatory support.
- Ensure compliance with infection control practices, patient safety standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- Licensed Respiratory Therapist (RRT or CRT)
- Preferred: Minimum of 2 years of recent critical care experience
- Preferred: Experience in Emergency Room (ER)
- Proven expertise in mechanical ventilation, airway management, and critical care respiratory therapies
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in high-stress, high-acuity clinical settings
- Strong communication, critical thinking, and documentation abilities
Job Summary:
This role involves evaluating and caring for patients requiring respiratory therapy, administering prescribed therapeutic services.
Key Responsibilities and Requirements:
Primary Responsibilities:
- Assess patients to determine the appropriate type and frequency of treatment, developing care plans based on diagnoses.
- Provide respiratory care services according to physician orders, departmental policies, and guidelines.
- Implement and monitor patient care plans and equipment, documenting and communicating patient conditions while performing advanced respiratory care modalities.
- Evaluate respiratory practices and medication administration based on patient outcomes.
- Educate patients and families about health conditions and available community support resources.
- Assist with the care, calibration, and maintenance of all equipment, participating in inventory management for supplies and equipment.
- Respond to medical emergencies and rapid response situations.
- Maintain a constant state of alertness and safety.
- Perform other assigned duties as needed.
Education:
- Associate’s degree in Respiratory Care or equivalent experience and education.
Experience:
- No prior experience required.
Physical Requirements:
- Frequent verbal communication to convey information.
- Constant standing and walking.
- Regular lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling of objects weighing 0-25 lbs.
- Frequent sitting, reaching, and data entry.
- Regular use of vision for near and far distances, as well as color differentiation.
- Frequent use of smell to identify odors.
- Regular auditory skills to receive communication and detect alarms.
- Occasional lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling of objects weighing 25-50 lbs.
- Occasional patient handling.
- Occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, twisting, gripping, and repetitive movements.
- Occasional driving.
- Rare crawling and running.
