Dental Assistant – Assisted Hygiene & General Dentistry (Experience Preferred)

Monday–Thursday: 8:30 AM–5:30 PM | Friday: 8:30 AM–3:30 PM

We're seeking a Dental Assistant who will support both our hygienists in an assisted hygiene model and our general dentist during restorative and preventive procedures. We're looking for a Massachusetts Licensed Dental Assistant who is either a DANB Certified Dental Assistant (CDA) or a graduate of a formal Dental Assisting program. This position is not intended for on-the-job (OTJ) trained dental assistants. Candidates should have a strong clinical foundation and be committed to delivering outstanding patient care.

Your Role

As a Dental Assistant, you'll provide exceptional support to both our hygiene and restorative teams while helping deliver efficient, comfortable, and high-quality patient care.

Assisted Hygiene Responsibilities

• Assist hygienists with patient flow and scheduling efficiency
• Prepare treatment rooms and instruments before and after appointments
• Take diagnostic digital radiographs
• Record medical and dental histories, chart findings, and update patient records
• Educate patients on oral hygiene, preventive care, and post-treatment instructions
• Maintain sterilization and infection control protocols according to OSHA and CDC standards
• Help ensure every patient feels informed, comfortable, and cared for

Chairside General Dentistry Responsibilities

• Prepare patients for examinations and treatment procedures
• Provide chairside assistance during restorative, crown and bridge, extractions, and other general dental procedures
• Anticipate the dentist's needs by passing instruments and materials efficiently
• Prepare, mix, and place dental materials as permitted by licensure
• Take preliminary impressions and occlusal registrations as allowed by state regulations
• Assist during administration of nitrous oxide when applicable
• Clean and polish removable appliances
• Record treatment completed and maintain accurate patient documentation
• Maintain laboratory cases, including tracking incoming and outgoing cases and ensuring cases are available for delivery appointments

Clinical & Practice Responsibilities

• Sterilize and disinfect instruments and operatories
• Perform weekly biological (spore) testing and maintain sterilization records
• Complete monthly BORID reporting and other regulatory documentation as required
• Maintain dental supply inventory and assist with ordering supplies
• Dispose of clinical waste according to office protocols
• Perform routine maintenance and care of dental equipment
• Participate in daily morning huddles and contribute to efficient patient care planning
• Assist with dental and medical emergencies following OSHA and office protocols
• Maintain patient confidentiality and HIPAA compliance at all times
• Represent the practice with professionalism, compassion, and positivity
• Perform additional duties as assigned to support the success of the practice

What We're Looking For

• Current Massachusetts Registered Dental Assistant status
• DANB Certified Dental Assistant (CDA) credential or graduation from an accredited Dental Assisting program
• Current CPR Certification
• Current Dental Radiology (X-ray) Certification
• On-the-job (OTJ) trained candidates will not be considered
• One or more years of dental assisting experience strongly preferred
• Excellent communication, organization, and multitasking skills
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to patient comfort
• Positive attitude with a genuine desire to help others
• Ability to work independently while thriving in a collaborative team environment

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements

This position is active and patient-focused and requires the ability to:

• Stand for approximately 80% of the workday and sit for approximately 20%
• Frequently bend, twist, and change positions while assisting patients
• Lift and move up to 35 pounds when handling equipment and supplies
• Demonstrate excellent hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity
• Work comfortably in a medical, dental, and laboratory environment
• Maintain close visual focus for detailed clinical procedures
• Work around moderate equipment noise, dental materials, and occasional trace amounts of nitrous oxide
• Maintain a professional demeanor while working around blood and other clinical conditions common in dentistry
