R&D Food Scientist

R&D Food ScientistApex Systems is currently hiring for an R&D Food Scientist with a well-established food manufacturing client specializing in innovative food coloring, decorating solutions, and specialty bakery ingredients. This role will support new product development initiatives, formulation optimization, ingredient evaluation, and commercialization efforts for a growing product portfolio. The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in food science, product development, and scale-up activities within a manufacturing environment.Must-Have QualificationsBachelor's or Master's degree in Food Science, Food Engineering, or a related scientific discipline2-5+ years of experience in food product development, formulation, or R&D within a food manufacturing environmentExperience supporting product scale-up activities from laboratory development through commercial productionWorking knowledge of food chemistry, ingredient functionality, and food safety regulations, including FDA and CFR Title 21 requirementsExperience creating technical documentation, specifications, formulation records, and test protocolsStrong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneouslyStrong communication and cross-functional collaboration skillsPreferred QualificationsExperience developing and optimizing food formulations, including bakery ingredients, icings, glazes, piping gels, bakery mixes, food colorings, or related productsExperience conducting ingredient research, competitive product evaluations, and trend analysisKnowledge of manufacturing processes, quality systems, and commercialization activities within the food industryExperience partnering with Sales, Marketing, Operations, Quality, and Supply Chain teams to support product launches and customer needsHands-on laboratory experience with formulation testing and analytical equipmentLocation: North Orange County, CAOnsite Expectation: 100% OnsitePay Range: $85,000 - $95,000 annuallyApex Benefits Overview: Apex offers a range of supplemental benefits, including medical, dental, vision, life, disability, and other insurance plans that offer an optional layer of financial protection.
