Job Title: Production Operator Job Description

The Production Operator supports the manufacturing of precision automotive components by assisting machine operators, monitoring production quality, and using measuring tools and blueprints to ensure parts meet specifications. This role involves working with CNC and other metal manufacturing equipment in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment while adhering to strict safety, quality, and housekeeping standards.

Responsibilities

• Assist machine operators with materials and supplies needed to run production equipment efficiently.

• Support the setup and operation of production and CNC machinery, including Murata CNC machines and multi-spindle screw machines, under the guidance of experienced operators.

• Ensure that all items produced meet quality control requirements by performing checks and inspections throughout the production process.

• Train alongside experienced operators to learn moderately advanced troubleshooting techniques and make basic equipment adjustments as needed.

• Read and interpret blueprints, when applicable, to verify part specifications and production requirements.

• Use moderately advanced measuring instruments, including hand gauges, calipers, micrometers, and other measurement tools, to confirm part dimensions and tolerances.

• Accurately complete all required production, quality, and reporting documents in a timely manner.

• Log inputs and data into the machine HMI (Human-Machine Interface) as needed to support production tracking and quality control.

• Adhere to 5S standards by maintaining a clean, organized, and safe work area at all times.

• Follow all Safety, Environmental, and Quality policies, procedures, and guidelines throughout each shift.

• Work collaboratively with operators and production workers on the assigned shift to meet production goals and performance expectations.

• After training, for CNC-focused employees, run multiple machines simultaneously (up to four machines at once) while maintaining quality and efficiency.

• Perform other production, support, and housekeeping duties as assigned by supervision.

Essential Skills

• Previous machine operating or production line experience in a manufacturing or metalworking environment (multiple years of experience strongly preferred).

• Ability to use measurement tools such as hand gauges, calipers, and micrometers to verify part dimensions.

• Basic to intermediate mathematical skills to perform measurements, conversions, and tolerance checks.

• Ability to read and interpret blueprints or willingness and aptitude to learn blueprint reading.

• Familiarity with general machine operation, including starting, stopping, and monitoring equipment during production.

• Strong attention to detail to identify defects, inconsistencies, or quality issues in parts.

• Comfort working with hand tools and power tools in a production environment.

• Ability to follow written and verbal work instructions, safety procedures, and quality standards.

• Capability to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive tasks in a manufacturing setting.

• Willingness to work 2nd or 3rd shift and to work weekends as needed to support production demands.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• CNC machine operation experience, including setup or operation of CNC equipment, is preferred.

• Experience operating Murata CNC machines and multi-spindle screw machines is a plus.

• Blueprint reading experience is highly desirable but not strictly required for consideration.

• Background in metal manufacturing or automotive component production is beneficial.

• Mechanical aptitude and a willingness to learn new machines and processes through on-the-job training.

• Ability to learn to run up to four CNC machines at once after approximately three months of training.

• Comfort using an HMI (Human-Machine Interface) to log production data and inputs.

• Openness to cross-training and supporting different machines or production lines as needed.

Work Environment

This role is based in a newer, smoke-free manufacturing facility that produces automotive transmission, engine, steering, suspension components, and fasteners for automotive, heavy-duty truck, and off-road industries. The environment is not climate controlled, but it does not typically experience extreme temperatures. You will work closely with operators and production workers on either 2nd shift (1:45 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., Monday through Friday) or 3rd shift (9:45 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., Monday through Friday), with occasional weekend work as production needs require. The facility uses CNC machines, including Murata CNC machines, multi-spindle screw machines, and various metal manufacturing equipment, along with measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, and hand gauges. The dress code requires slip-resistant, steel-toe shoes (with receipts saved for potential reimbursement upon conversion), along with jeans and a work shirt without holes, ensuring both safety and practicality on the production floor.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Mooresville, NC.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $23.00/hr.
