POLICE OFFICER (CERTIFIED)

Job Summary Police Officer (Certified) – 84‑hour shift. Starting salary $68,250.00 for new officers, $70,980.00 after one year probation. Eligible for $5,000 State of Florida recruitment bonus. Essential Job Functions Patrol duties – motor, bicycle, foot, traffic enforcement. Respond to emergencies, conduct investigations, arrest suspects. Secure crime scenes, preserve evidence, write reports, testify in court. Community policing, outreach, crime prevention programs. Assist with traffic control, public events, prisoner transport, first aid. Operate and maintain police vehicles, radios, firearms, and other equipment. Participate in required training and continuing education. May rotate into specialized units (Investigations, K‑9, DARE, Community Policing). Minimum Qualifications High‑school diploma or GED. United States citizen. Current Florida Police Officer Certification (FDLE), or attending a police academy with projected graduation within 3 months of posting close. Valid Florida driver’s license with satisfactory driving record. Knowledge of municipal law enforcement duties, federal and state agencies, legal rights, firearms, automotive and radio equipment, criminal behavior, civil process, and inter‑agency communication. Ability to pass required polygraph, psychological and background investigations. Required Skills & Abilities Strong judgment and sound decision‑making under high‑risk conditions. Excellent communication and documentation skills. Ability to operate equipment safely and effectively. Physical fitness to stand for extended periods, lift/transport up to 10 lbs, and perform duties in varied weather conditions. Vision standards: no color blindness, minimum 20/100 uncorrected, 20/30 corrected. Testing and Investigation Requirements Polygraph exam covering criminal history, application accuracy, drug use. Psychological evaluation post‑conditional offer. Background investigation: education, employment history, driving record, arrests, drug history. Medical examination with drug/alcohol screening.
