Category Provider Description HealthWorks for Northern Virginia is a non‑profit Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) serving the medically underserved and uninsured populations of Northern Virginia. We provide quality medical, dental, and behavioral health care to all ages who might not otherwise be able to afford it. Assists in the planning and implementation of HealthWorks’ health care plan for patients. Assumes quality of care for all patients. Provides clinical medical care required for prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of human disease and injury. Evaluates situations that call for emergency medical procedures or require physician intervention. Evaluates and treats acute injuries, including injections, subcutaneous local anesthesia, applies and removes splints for severe sprains and fractures, sutures superficial wounds, removes sutures, and treats/dresses wounds. Responsible for diagnosis and treatment of conditions within scope of practice. Reviews and updates the health record using EMR. Evaluates patients including obtaining medical history and physical exam; orders and interprets lab and x‑ray data; diagnoses patient conditions, prescribes medications, orders tests, discriminates between normal and abnormal findings, and provides treatment and therapy. Initiates appropriate referrals to other health care providers and seeks supervision from center physicians when care or conditions are beyond scope of practice. Obtains appropriate consults from specialists when needed. Clearly documents all patient visits and billing within 24 hours following that encounter. All entries in the patient medical record are entered into the EMR using the SOAP format. Provides high‑quality customer service to patients with a high emphasis on customer satisfaction. Shows effort to maintain patient flow and efficiency, which directly impacts patient and staff satisfaction. Practices fiscally responsible medicine to sustain the financial stability of the health center, using laboratory formulary, stepwise diagnostic testing, and generic medications when medically appropriate. Works with facility staff and medical staff through quality improvement, peer evaluation, professional and staff meetings, and federal and state rules to ensure quality clinical standards. Provides adequate and timely patient medical records to facilitate continuity of care, confidentiality of client information, and compliance with medical reporting standards, and to facilitate accurate and timely billing of services. Adheres to the highest standards of medical practice, ethics, and professionalism at all times. Adheres to quality assessment guidelines, CLIA, OSHA or other regulations as federally mandated or set forth by HealthWorks standards. Maintains office hours of the center and abides by HealthWorks policies and procedures. Participates in provider staff, clinical staff, and general staff meetings. Shares in the responsibility of teaching and training Health Science students and other health care professionals. Maintains certifications that strengthen ability to provide quality care (e.g., BLS). Accepts clinical responsibilities and duties assigned or requested by the Chief Medical Officer. Maintains affiliation with professional groups, medical associations, and medical organizations as per policies. Participates in community marketing of HealthWorks to attract new patients. Receives and responds promptly to calls and electronic notices from health center staff. Shares on‑call duties on a rotating basis with other providers employed or contracted with HealthWorks. Documents applicable patient data in the EMR to capture and report accurate health center prenatal care outcomes. Ensures protection of confidential health information of health center patients. Abides by HealthWorks' Code of Ethics, Standards of Behavior and other policies. Qualifications Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program. Meets annual continuing medical education (CME) requirements and reports these assurances to the Chief Medical Officer. Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills. Can maintain appropriate clinical privileges. Has FTCA coverage or private professional malpractice insurance obtainable. Bilingual skills are preferred. Licensure and Credentials Requirements Valid Commonwealth of Virginia Nurse Practitioner license. Board Certified or Board eligible; if eligible, must meet certification requirements within one year of completing residency training program. Adheres to guidelines for meeting re‑certification requirements for Nurse Practitioners. Maintains current DEA certification. Maintains current licensures and certifications and provides copies for personnel file at HealthWorks.
