You'll set the standard for quality, service, and team performance, ensuring that every customer who stops in for their morning coffee or afternoon pick-me-up gets a great product and an even better experience.If you're a natural leader who takes pride in running a smooth operation, loves developing a team, and thrives in a fast-paced environment, this role is a great fit for you.What You'll DoNo two shifts are exactly the same, but here's what you can expect:Set and uphold department standards for customer service, cleanliness, sanitation, team relations, and overall profitabilityBuild a friendly, welcoming atmosphere by encouraging your team to greet and engage with customers and leading by exampleAssist customers with finding products, reaching items, carrying heavy purchases, and going the extra mile to make their visit a great oneRecruit, hire, train, supervise, and evaluate department employees, and handle performance and disciplinary matters as neededCoordinate scheduling, daily work plans, and department goals in partnership with store leadershipOversee ordering, replenishment, pricing, invoicing, and department bookkeepingAnalyze weekly and monthly sales trends, prepare ad projections, and plan promotions and displaysEnsure proper product temperatures, storage procedures, and freshness standards to minimize shrinkUnderstand and troubleshoot department equipment and coordinate maintenance as neededMaintain consistent speed of service by ensuring all staffing requirements are metConduct department inventory and manage product pre-ordersMaintain compliance with Hy-Vee's dress code, hygiene standards, and all company policiesAssist in other store areas and take on special projects as neededYou'll receive direction and support from: District Store Director, Store Manager, Assistant Managers of Store Operations, Perishables, and Health Wellness Home, and Food Service DirectorYour SkillsTo be successful in this role, you'll need to be able to:Deliver outstanding customer service and inspire your team to do the sameLead, motivate, and develop a team in a fast-paced food service environmentSolve practical problems and make sound decisions with a variety of variablesUse basic math skills, including fractions, decimals, and percentagesCommunicate clearly in writing and verbally with customers, employees, and vendorsHandle confidential information, including employee compensation, sales data, and inventory reports, with discretionHigh school diploma or equivalent required; on-the-job training and sanitation courses preferred; one or more years of related work experience preferredReporting RelationshipsAccountable and Reports to: Store Director, Store Manager, Assistant Managers of Store Operations, Perishables, and Health Wellness Home, and Food Service DirectorDirect Reports: Coffee Shop Department EmployeesEducation and ExperienceHigh school diploma or equivalent requiredOn-the-job training and sanitation courses preferredOne or more years of related work experience preferredPhysical RequirementsAbility to frequently lift, carry, push, or pull objects weighing 100 pounds or more, with or without mechanical assistanceContinuously stand and walk on hard surfaces for extended periodsWhere applicable to the role: ability to operate pallet jacks, forklifts, or similar material-handling equipment (required operator certification must be completed prior to independent use)Work in cooler or freezer environments for extended periodsWhere applicable to the role: ability to safely use sharp knives and blades to cut, trim, or grind productWhere applicable to the role, and in accordance with applicable age and legal requirements: operate a cardboard baler or compactorWhere applicable to the role: perform repetitive motions associated with dough mixing, scaling, and proofingAbility to unload, lift, stock, and rotate incoming truck freight and merchandiseWorking EnvironmentThis is a fast-moving, hands-on role where no two days are the same. You may frequently work in areas with temperature extremes and dampness. The role involves working with and around standard coffee shop and store equipment and may include exposure to electrical equipment, cleaning products, or solvents.
