Child Life Specialists provide evidence-based, developmentally and psychologically appropriate interventions including therapeutic play, preparation for procedures, and education that support and reduce fear, anxiety and pain for children, adolescents, and families. CLS work in partnership with families, interdisciplinary healthcare teams and community professionals within the evolving healthcare system to meet the psychosocial, emotional, and developmental needs of children and adolescents.

Child Life Specialist

• Child Life services include but are not limited to, opportunities for a variety of play, activities and other interactions which promote self-healing, self-expression, understanding and mastery.
• Serve children and families, regardless of race, gender, religion, sexual orientation, economic status, values, national origin, or disability.
• Provide evidence-based, developmentally and psychologically appropriate interventions including therapeutic play, preparation for procedures, and education that support and reduce fear, anxiety and pain for children, adolescents, and families.
• Work in partnership with families, interdisciplinary healthcare teams and community professionals within the evolving healthcare system to meet the psychosocial, emotional and developmental needs of children and adolescents.
• Supervise Child Life students and volunteers.
• Develop and evaluate Child Life Services.
• Provide end-of-life support/bereavement for children in collaboration with Pastoral Services/Palliative Care/Nursing staff.
• Function as a representative for Pediatric needs on various committees and task forces.
• Represent and communicate child life practice and psychosocial issues of infants, children, youth, and families to others.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Experience


Essential:

• Bachelor Degree

Nonessential:

• Master Degree

Essential:

• Bachelor's Degree in Child Life, Child Development, Early Childhood Education, or related field required.

Nonessential:

• Child Life, Child Development or related field

Essential:

• Basic Cardiac Life Support

Other information:
Essential Experience: Completion of Child Life internship following Association of Child Life Professionals current standards and/or eligible for Child Life Certification
Preferred Experience: 1-4 Years of Certified Child Life Specialist work experience

Certification Essential: Certified or eligible for certification within one year of hire.
