Underwriter OR Underwriting Specialist - E&S Property

Location and Work Arrangement Office‑based in Chicago, New York, or Atlanta with a hybrid arrangement. You will work in the office/market three days per week and coordinate a flexible schedule with your manager. Job Summary Zurich E&S is hiring an E&S Property Underwriter to analyze and underwrite new and renewal business, interact with the market under limited supervision, and apply the Zurich Way of Underwriting Framework. The role involves partnering with national wholesalers to drive growth and focus on profitability. Responsibilities Serve as a customer industry advocate to improve the customer experience by understanding risk and offering comprehensive insurance solutions. Apply a disciplined approach to exposure evaluation, risk assessment, and pricing. Use risk insights, data, and models to drive informed decisions at point of sale. Market‑face and produce within the E&S Standard Property group. Administer and monitor underwriting rules and guidelines, insurance laws and regulations, and rating manual rules. Work within broad limits and authorities on highly complex assignments. Required Qualifications High School Diploma or Equivalent and at least 1 year of experience in Underwriting or Market Facing. High School Diploma or Equivalent and at least 2 years of experience in Claims or Underwriting Support. Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an Associate Degree and at least 1 year of experience in Underwriting or Market Facing. Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an Associate Degree and at least 4 years of experience in Claims or Underwriting Support. Knowledge of lines of business and the legal and regulatory guidelines. Knowledge of time restraints for quotes on new and renewal business. Experience with Microsoft Office. Additional experience: High School Diploma or Equivalent and at least 3 years of experience in Underwriting or Market Facing. High School Diploma or Equivalent and at least 6 years of experience in Claims or Underwriting Support. Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an Associate Degree and at least 1 year of experience in Underwriting or Market Facing. Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an Associate Degree and at least 4 years of experience in Claims or Underwriting Support. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree with at least 1 year of experience in Underwriting, emphasizing E&S Property Underwriting or Underwriting Support. Strong negotiation skills and nationwide wholesale broker relationships. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Compensation Salary range: $60,000.00 – $125,000.00 (national average; varies by location). Underwriter range: $60,000.00 – $95,000.00; Underwriting Specialist range: $75,000.00 – $125,000.00.
