Position Title: Registered Dental Assistant (RDA)

Reports To: Dentist / Office Manager

Job Summary

A Registered Dental Assistant (RDA) assists the dentist during dental procedures, provides patient care, maintains infection control standards, and helps ensure the smooth operation of the dental office. The RDA is responsible for creating a positive patient experience while delivering high-quality clinical support.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Clinical Duties

• Prepare treatment rooms and dental instruments for procedures.
• Assist the dentist during examinations and dental treatments.
• Take dental radiographs (X-rays) as permitted by state regulations.
• Perform coronal polishing, sealants, and fluoride treatments as authorized.
• Make impressions and fabricate temporary restorations when allowed by law.
• Sterilize instruments and maintain infection control protocols.
• Prepare and maintain dental materials and equipment.
• Provide post-operative instructions to patients.

Patient Care

• Welcome and seat patients.
• Review medical histories and update patient records.
• Ensure patient comfort before, during, and after treatment.
• Educate patients on oral hygiene and treatment recommendations.
• Answer patient questions regarding dental procedures.

Administrative Duties

• Maintain accurate clinical records and charting.
• Assist with scheduling and patient flow.
• Monitor inventory and order dental supplies as needed.
• Ensure compliance with OSHA, HIPAA, and infection control regulations.

Qualifications

• Current Registered Dental Assistant (RDA) license.
• Current CPR/BLS certification.
• Knowledge of dental procedures, terminology, and infection control.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
• Experience with dental software and digital radiography preferred.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand or sit for extended periods.
• Manual dexterity required for handling instruments and equipment.
• Ability to lift and carry dental supplies and equipment as needed.
