Supervisor, Nursing
This position is responsible for supporting the inpatient nursing units at Frick Hospital with day-to-day operations, staff engagement, and patient experience. Functions may include processing payroll, mentoring and supporting newly hired staff, scheduling of staff, ensuring that all staff meeting yearly training requirements, monitoring of quality metrics, facilitating staff meetings, This role complies with and oversees nursing unit compliance with practices that adhere to infection control policies and promote a safe environment of care as identified by the organization, state, Joint Commission, OSHA, and other regulatory agencies. Additionally, the supervisor collaborates with other departments for process improvement and patient flow.
Essential job responsibilities include aligning department with strategy maps and continually working to implement drivers in support of Independence Health System's mission and vision, acting promptly to resolve problems and initiate better ways of doing things by acting as a catalyst for change, establishing and maintaining a safe working environment and assuring staff complies with safety, environmental, and infection control guidelines, equitably applying policies and procedures by issuing corrective action in a fair and consistent manner, assessing customer's needs, exceeding customer expectations, and considering customers in decision making to improve customer satisfaction, acting on most urgent tasks, leveraging available resources, reviewing own workload, implementing workable systems, and providing clear direction. This position has direct supervisory responsibilities and serves as a coach and mentor for other positions in the department. Management responsibilities include hiring, coaching, skills development, recognition and rewards, staff productivity and performance management. The supervisor articulates compelling program direction and translates direction into goals, models and exemplifies leadership in a consistent and proactive manner, leads change in a complex healthcare environment, supports the system's mission, vision, and values, implements at least one process improvement initiative for department on an annual basis, investigates root case analysis of recurring problems and takes appropriate action, ties contributions to bigger goals while influencing and persuading others by building commitment among diverse groups, demonstrates ability to eliminate silos by modeling actions and setting examples and influence others to think and act as a unified health system, challenges oneself to a higher level of performance by taking responsibility for professional growth and development, holds self and others accountable and takes responsibility for outcomes, facilitates open communication, diffuses sources of conflict, demonstrates respect for others, and diplomatically negotiates solutions, facilitates teamwork through coaching and mentoring staff, and performs other duties as assigned.
Required qualifications/experience include a graduate of an accredited nursing program and two plus (2+) years of nursing experience, a bachelor of science in nursing (BSN) required at time of hire or obtain within two (2) years of hire or transfer, zero (0) to two (2) years supervisory/management experience in functional area, strong leadership ability, good organizational skills, independent and critical thinking skills, sound judgment, and knowledge of legal aspects and liability of functional area, and strong ability to communicate complex and/or controversial topics and concepts to a wide and diverse audience. Preferred qualifications/experience include supervisor experience in nursing.
License, certification, and clearances required include current licensure to practice as a registered nurse in the state of Pennsylvania, current basic life support (BLS) approved curriculum of the American Heart Association (CPR and AED) program, act 33 with renewal, act 34 with renewal, act 73 FBI clearance, current ACLS or completion within one (1) year of hire/transfer date into department, NIH stroke scale current or within six (6) months of hire/transfer into department.
Position type/expected hours of work include incumbent will be scheduled based on operational need (rotate shifts, standby, on-call, etc.), travel may be expected locally between system locations.
