As an Environmental Service Worker at UNC Health Appalachian, you'll play an essential role in maintaining a clean, safe, and healing environment for our patients, visitors, and staff. Your work upholds the highest standards of infection control and safety while supporting the overall patient experience. Compensation: Starting at $16.00/hour, based on education and experience

Schedule: Full-time; 7:00am - 3:30pm

What You'll Do as an Environmental Service Worker

• Perform general cleaning assignments, including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and sanitizing
• Strip and refinish floors, perform carpet cleaning and extraction, and safely handle waste removal
• Maintain compliance with infection control and hospital sanitation procedures
• Securely dispose of confidential documents in accordance with facility policies
• Restock cleaning supplies and promptly report any maintenance or safety concerns
• Follow all safety protocols and properly use personal protective equipment (PPE)
• Collaborate with hospital staff to ensure a clean and welcoming environment for all
• Assist with emergency cleaning or special projects as needed

Qualifications/Licenses

• Preferred Qualifications:
• High school diploma or GED
• Prior experience in environmental services or healthcare

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

• Strong attention to detail and adherence to established cleaning protocols
• Ability to communicate effectively with staff, patients, and visitors
• Knowledge of infection control and sanitation standards
• Dependable, organized, and able to work independently or as part of a team
• Ability to read, write, and follow written and verbal instructions

Physical & Work Environment

• Frequent standing, walking, bending, squatting, and lifting throughout the shift
• Lifts, pushes, pulls, or carries up to and over 50 lbs
• Exposure to cleaning chemicals, mechanical equipment, and hospital environment risks
• Regular exposure to bloodborne pathogens and infectious materials
• May work irregular hours, including days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays
