Location: Texas Medical Center, Houston, TX Salary Range: $63,052 to $74,178 FLSA Status: Nonexempt Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. Summary Baylor College of Medicine (BCM) is recognized as one of the nation's premier academic health science centers and is known for excellence in education and research. The Core for Advanced Magnetic Resonance Imaging (CAMRI) at BCM seeks a full-time Imaging Research Technician to support research imaging operations. This position centers on participant-facing responsibilities, including training to operate MRI scanners for research studies, ensuring patient and equipment safety, and managing the setup and execution of imaging sessions. In addition to imaging operations, the specialist will contribute to computing and data support that underpins CAMRI's work. This includes quality assurance of imaging and computing systems, participation in research data workflows, and training/exposure to development of cutting-edge approaches in scientific computing, including applications of generative AI in neuroscience. The role emphasizes applied technical skills that help maintain smooth operations in a research environment. The ideal candidate should be highly self-motivated, be able to follow instructions, and independently complete duties. This position is located at the BCM Smith Medical Research Building in the Texas Medical Center. Job Duties MRI Scanning: Completes MRI safety training and progress toward independent operator certification. (55%) Takes direct responsibility for participant safety, screening, and comfort during imaging sessions. (4%) Reviews completed MRI screening forms and check with technical director if there are any questions or concerns. Screens every subject prior to their session and ensures they do not have anything implanted or in their pockets/on person before the MRI session. Ensures subjects are properly positioned for their MRI by placing under leg pillows and modification of padding in the MRI machine to be comfortable. Prepares and configures scanner room hardware (e.g., coils, peripherals, participant interfaces). (2%) Follows established safety protocols and documentation procedures. (6%) Participates in regular scanner quality assurance and maintenance activities by training to troubleshoot scanner issues and perform weekly quality assurance MRI scans. Will scan a bottle in the machine and export it off for QA review. Calls in scanner issue as they occur. (2%) Assists in maintaining and supporting data workflows for imaging studies. (3%) Provides light computing support for CAMRI systems (software setup, troubleshooting, user support). (4%) Contributes to quality assurance for computing and server equipment by monitoring the scan sessions that have been exported and help backing up data. Will assists with resending sessions if data gets corrupted with export. (3%) Gains exposure to scientific computing approaches, including applications of generative AI in neuroimaging and related research areas. (5%) Documents and updates standard operating procedures (SOPs). (4%) Contribute to equipment upkeep and quality control. (2%) Performs other job-related duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Associate's degree in related field or two years of relevant experience may substitute for degree requirement. No experience required. Work Authorization Requirement: This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship.
