Job Qualifications

Hudson Junior/Senior High School is seeking a dedicated, compassionate, and proactive School Social Worker with a strong focus on supporting students in Grades 6–8. Middle school is a critical developmental bridge, and this position plays a vital role in addressing the social, emotional, behavioral, and academic needs of early adolescents.

The ideal candidate will serve as a key member of the student support team, providing targeted interventions, crisis response, individual and group counseling, and case management while collaborating closely with families, faculty, and community agencies to foster a safe, inclusive, and supportive school climate.

Key Responsibilities

Direct Student Support & Counseling

• Provide short-term individual and group counseling to students in grades 6–8 focusing on executive functioning, emotional regulation, peer relationships, trauma, anxiety, and school engagement.

• Conduct psycho-social assessments and evaluations as part of the Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) and Committee on Special Education (CSE) process.

• Provide crisis intervention, risk assessments (e.g., self-harm, suicidal ideation), and safety planning when immediate behavioral or mental health challenges arise.

• Help students develop effective coping mechanisms, conflict-resolution strategies, and decision-making skills suited to adolescent development.

Collaboration & Teamwork

• Serve as an active member of the Student Support Team (SST), CSE, and grade-level instructional teams to identify students in need of early intervention.

• Collaborate with teachers and staff to develop, implement, and monitor Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) and Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs).

• Partner with the administrative team and school counselors to support transition planning—both from elementary school into 6th grade and from 8th grade into high school.

• Promote restorative practices and trauma-informed care principles throughout the middle school community.

Family & Community Engagement

• Serve as a primary liaison between the school, home, and local Hudson/Columbia County community resources.

• Conduct home visits and family outreach to address chronic absenteeism, truancy, and family dynamics impacting student performance.

• Connect families with external mental health providers, social services, food/housing assistance, and community-based support programs.
