The Oregon Health Authority (OHA), Public Health Division (PHD), Radiation Protection Services section is seeking a Health Physicist - Licensing (Environmental Health Specialist 3) to join its team.
In this role, the Health Physicist will provide guidance to public and private sector officials on radiation health and safety issues, drawing on environmental testing data and scientific research. This individual will interpret and explain applicable statutes, rules, policies, and procedures to licensees and applicants. They will also review radiation safety program requirements, identify areas within license applications that may require clarification or improvement, and offer appropriate recommendations. In addition, the position provides instruction to individuals or groups of licensees on the methods and procedures necessary to comply with regulatory standards.

What We Are Looking For
Minimum Qualifications: These qualifications must be reflected in your application for consideration.
Two years of experience equivalent to an Environmental Health Specialist 2 working under general supervision of an environmental health specialist, conducting environmental health or hazardous materials investigations, inspecting facilities and equipment for environmental health regulation compliance, investigating and assessing the impact of adverse environmental conditions on the public health, preparing health permits, conducting studies and surveys, and developing solutions to environmental problems AND
A bachelor's degree with 45 quarter (30 semester) hours in a field of science.

- Experience in advising public and private officials on radiation health and safety issues.
- Experience in interpreting rules, policies, and procedures to radioactive material licensees.
- Experience in reviewing the licensee's radiation safety program and assessing needs for improvement.
- Experience in providing methods and procedures for compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Experience working with external partners, licensees and other local, state and federal agencies.
- Ability to evaluate license applications and communicate with prospective licensees regarding missing information or clarification of supplied information.
- Experience working with software such as Microsoft Office Suite, Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint.
Preference Statement: Preference will be given to candidates possessing more years of experience and meeting more of the desired attributes.

- This announcement is for one, full-time, limited duration, SEIU represented, Health Physicist- Licensing (Environmental Health Specialist 3) position based in Portland, Oregon.

- This position may have the opportunity to become permanent pending future budget modifications.
- Employment is contingent upon a criminal records check that meets OHA criteria at the time of hire and throughout employment.
- The salary listed is the non-PERS qualifying range. If the successful candidate qualifies for PERS, the salary range will increase by 6.95%. For more information, see the Classification and Compensation page.
