Job Title: ICU Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Intensive Care Unit Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Nights Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: 2 years License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: RN must pass an open book exam during orientation with a minimum score of 90%. Description: Unit notes indicate a radius rule of 50 miles. Candidates may not be full time, part time, or PRN with any competing facility. Artificial nails are prohibited in all departments providing patient care. Refusal to remove artificial nails will lead to contract termination. A valid driver's license is required. Common patient diagnoses include COPD, pneumonia, CVA, TIA, DKA, sepsis, CHF, STEMI, and neuro conditions. ratios are 1:2. If staffing downgrades occur, medical patients are staffed at 1:5 and PCU at 1:4. RNs are required to titrate drips for medications including vasopressors and insulin. There is a charge nurse on each shift who also takes assignments. Patient care techs are available, with a ratio of 1 tech for up to 20 patients and 2 techs for up to 24 patients. Critical care coverage is provided 24/7 by hospitalists or intensivists. RNs must troubleshoot and manage equipment such as vents, BiPAPs, and high flow devices. RNs are required to read and interpret telemetry strips. Shifts are scheduled by the unit scheduler. Weekend requirements consist of every other weekend. Holiday requirements vary based on unit needs. Floating to PCU and medical floors may be required. Scrub color is navy blue. RTO is needed upfront and additional RTO will not be approved after submissions. The hospital can cancel up to 4 shifts per 13-week assignment. Charting will be done using an electronic medical record system. A BSN is not required for this position. This is a trauma level 2 care setting.
