Position Overview The Police Officer II, under general supervision, prevents and investigates violations of the law, University rules and regulations. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Law Enforcement & Public Safety Patrols University property by vehicle, Golf Cart, Trikke, or on foot. Enforces criminal laws and Transportation Code violations of the State of Texas. Reports violations of university rules and regulations. Prevents crime and suppresses disturbances. Issues citations and takes enforcement action as appropriate. Guards and transports prisoners. Emergency Response & Investigations Responds to emergency and non-emergency calls for service and takes appropriate action. Takes reports and conducts preliminary investigations. Assists other law enforcement agencies and community departments as needed. Testifies in Justice of the Peace, County, and District Courts, as well as student judicial hearings. Community Relations & Operational Support Interacts with students, faculty, staff, and the public through daily contact. Provides assistance and customer service to the public whenever possible. Maintains professional relationships with the University community and external agencies. Safely operates and properly maintains departmental vehicles and equipment. Required Qualifications Education – High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience – One year of experience as a licensed Police Officer. Required Licenses and Certifications Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) basic certification. Must have a State of Texas class "C" vehicle operator's license or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment. Preferred Qualifications Experience – Three years of related experience in patrol field operations. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others. Ability to communicate effectively with all segments of the campus population. Ability to function under adverse and stressful conditions. Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing. Ability to positively and professionally interact with students, staff and facility. Excellent communication and presentation skills. Ability to positively and professionally interact with clients and staff, groups of various sizes. Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others. Other Requirements This position is security sensitive. Work beyond normal office hours and/or work on weekends. Applicant must successfully pass psychological evaluation, physical examination, and complete background investigation to include but not limited to driving history, criminal background, and credit history.
