About the Education Department The Queens Museum’s Education Department offers a range of free and low-cost award-winning learning experiences that connect people across the lifespan with the Museum’s acclaimed exhibitions, collections, artist projects and public programs. They take place at the Museum and also at various community partner sites across the borough of Queens, a county of 2.4 million people and one of the most linguistically and culturally diverse places in the world. This community work includes long-term partnerships with over 30 Queens public schools, various Queens Library branches, hospitals, social service agencies, adult rehabilitation centers and much more. In all this work, the education department is committed to promoting the agency and imagination of all people, regardless of their backgrounds. Position Overview Queens Museum teaching artists are part of a diverse team of creative, highly motivated, and thoughtful educators interested in working with diverse, multi-generational audiences, particularly our adult immigrant community. Teaching artists develop and lead various workshops and hands‑on projects that promote ongoing learning in our adult immigrant community and through the arts and digital media. Ideal candidates will have experience teaching diverse immigrant audiences in a range of learning environments that bring fresh perspectives in creating new and innovative workshops that promote individual as well as community creative exploration. Queens Museum is looking to hire teaching artists that have experience that will support our dynamic Pre‑K‑12 school programs, customized in‑school residencies, inclusive ArtAccess workshops for visitors with disabilities, drop‑in family art‑making days, teen leadership initiatives and seasonal camps. Essential Functions Create, design, and facilitate arts education programs, workshops, classes, tours, and community‑based learning experiences that encourage not only artistic creation but also the construction and development of tools for growth and self‑exploration. Facilitate museum experiences and tours for groups of school groups and other groups visiting the Museum's exhibits. Develop curricula related to each workshop as well as support lesson plans that integrate the Museum's permanent and changing exhibitions with content relevant to the immigrant community and educational program goals. Adapt instruction to meet the needs of participants with diverse cultural, linguistic, educational, and learning backgrounds. Create welcoming and inclusive learning environments that encourage participation and artistic exploration. Prepare materials, supplies, and instructional resources necessary for successful program delivery. Maintain accurate attendance records and program documentation as required. Manage workload and complete all requirements of the teaching artist role within established deadlines and approved allocated time for each project. These responsibilities include, but are not limited to: curriculum and lesson planning; preparation of materials; travel time (when identified as part of the project scope); instructional or facilitation time; participant engagement and classroom management; documentation, assessment and reporting, room setup, room cleanup and restoration; and administrative tasks and deliverables directly related to the project Participate in required orientation sessions, staff professional development workshops, seminars, and other activities with educational staff, curators, and other specialists. Educators are expected to independently read recommended or assigned readings related to permanent and changing exhibitions. Maintain and organize art materials for art‑making sessions depending on the characteristics of each workshop and its different needs and logistics. Compile the activities carried out at home as well as generate a digital lesson plan that can be consulted by both workshop attendees and collaborating teachers. .
