Completes established competencies for the position within designated introductory period. Other related duties as assigned.  Assesses human responses and adaptation to actual or potential health problems of the patient, family and/or significant other  Institutes and initiates a plan for patient care based on the initial assessment; implements and continuously evaluates interventions; reassesses patient needs on an on-going basis  Recognizes changing patient condition and utilizes unit resources, chain of command and Rapid Response Team (RRT) in a timely and appropriate manner.  Assimilates and prioritizes information sources to take immediate and decisive patient-focused action  Supports and maintains the physiologic stability of patients  Responds with confidence and adapts to rapid changing patient conditions  Documents all plans and care provided  Identifies need for education of patient, family and/or significant other and provides education through individualized instruction, the use of written materials and/or other available resources  Assigns nursing care to licensed staff, delegates nursing care to unlicensed staff and coordinates the flow of work  Calculates and administers medications  Coordinates and collaborates with multidisciplinary team members in the planning and management of patient care  Responds to the unique needs of patients and families coping with unanticipated treatment, quality of life, and end-of-life decisions  Monitors and allocates critical care services, recognizing the fiduciary role of nurses working in a resource intensive environment  Participates in discharge planning; provides instruction to patient/family  Maintains and promotes professional standards and development by participating in inservices, committees and staff meetings  Serves as a role model for compassionate care and service excellence and commits to Studer Principles and “must haves”  Facilitates patient movement within the department and through the facility, proactively managing patient admissions, discharges and transfers  Manages patient hand-offs at shift change and between department and facilities; utilizes documentation tools for hand-offs as required  Provides every patient the defined standard of care (ie; core measures, chest pain protocol)  Utilizes resources efficiently and effectively  Maintains safe environment  Addresses patient population-specific needs  Participates in Performance Improvement needs MINIMUM EDUCATION: Graduate of accredited school of nursing. PREFERRED EDUCATION: Bachelor's Degree MINIMUM EXPERIENCE: None PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: Two years in acute care. Previous clinical nursing experience in med/surg, telemetry or ICU REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURE: Possession of current Texas State License for Registered Nurse PREFERRED CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURE: None REQUIRED COURSES/COMPLETIONS (e.g., CPR):  Must have active healthcare provider Basic Life Support on hire (ARC or AHA); however, must have AHA Healthcare Provider BLS within 60 days of hire.  AHA ACLS must be completed within 60 days of hire or transfer into role (ADULT CRITICAL CARE, TELEMETRY, INTERIM CRITICAL CARE UNITS). *Should be completed before the end of the orientation period  AHA PALS must be completed within 60 days of hire or transfer into role (PEDI ICU) *Should be completed before the end of the orientation period  AHA NRP must be completed within 60 days of hire or transfer into role (NICU).  S.T.A.B.L.E. for NICU- Level 2 Nursery-Must provide proof of prior completion or obtain within 6 months of hire or transfer date into unit (Renewal is not required).
