HVAC TECHNICIAN

Position: First Class HVAC Technician
Location: Mobile, AL 
Pay: $34/hr
Required: Must have at least 5 years of relevant shipyard HVAC experience and be comfortable demonstrating their knowledge through the required written examination.

Job Description

• Read and interpret blueprints, mechanical drawings, schematics, and HVAC system layouts.
• Install, assemble, repair, and maintain HVAC and ventilation systems aboard marine vessels.
• Perform HVAC work according to ship drawings, specifications, and compartment layouts.
• Identify and navigate shipboard compartments using proper marine terminology.
• Install and fit ductwork, ventilation components, supports, hangers, dampers, and related HVAC equipment.
• Measure, lay out, cut, fit, and install materials according to specifications.
• Perform removal, modification, and replacement of existing HVAC and ventilation components as required.
• Coordinate with other trades to ensure proper installation and system alignment.
• Use hand tools, power tools, measuring equipment, and other tools required for HVAC installation.
• Inspect completed work for proper fit, installation, and compliance with project requirements.
• Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
• Follow company safety policies, OSHA regulations, and shipyard/client-specific safety requirements.
• Communicate effectively with supervisors, coworkers, and other trades.

• 5+ years of shipyard HVAC experience required.
• Strong experience reading and interpreting blueprints and shipboard HVAC layouts .
• Knowledge of marine terminology, ship layouts, and compartments .
• Experience installing and working with marine HVAC and ventilation systems.
• Ability to accurately measure, lay out, cut, fit, and install HVAC components.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail.
• Must be able to meet applicable background, drug screening, and shipyard access requirements.
