POSITION DESCRIPTION

Complement, supplement and reinforce students in instruction under the direction and supervision of the classroom teacher in both special education and regular education classrooms.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

1. Must have ability to work with students with physical, cognitive, emotional, learning and/or developmental disabilities
2. Previous experience working with this age group or special education students in general is preferred
3. Must have the ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with various school officials, principals, teachers and office personnel
4. Must possess initiative to accept and carry out varied assignments along with a consistent, systematic approach to the tasks performed
5. Must sign Consent to Bill for Medicaid
6. Must be willing to attend Nonviolent Crisis Intervention training after school as certification expires. Other behavioral techniques may require training after school hours.
7. Must be willing to use Nonviolent Crisis Intervention skills to socially and physically manage students who are escalated as directed by the teacher/administrator
8. Other duties assigned by the special education teacher or the building principal

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1. Complement, supplement and reinforce students' instruction under the direction and supervision of the classroom teacher in both special education and regular education classrooms
2. Assist with the preparation of materials, clean up after students, etc.
3. Assist with general supervision of the students including lunchtime, recess time, etc.
4. On an as needed basis para-professional employees may be required to attend to a student whose needs include routine medical procedures or assistance with regular hygiene
5. Other duties as assigned by the special education teacher or the building principal
6. Track academic or behavioral data as directed by teacher
7. Complete Medicaid billing monthly.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High School Diploma or Equivalent

LANGUAGE, MATHEMATICAL AND REASONING SKILLS: Ability to speak and write effectively. Ability to apply mathematical concepts to practical situations. Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral format and deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
