Description:
Locum Pathologist needed for a robust lab practice.
The provider will work with two other pathologists, three histotechs, two tech assistants, and two cytotechnologists.
The practice sees approximately 200 to 250 reads per day, split among three pathologists.
Each pathologist manages roughly 30 to 40, up to 50 surgical cases and 10 cytology cases daily.
The case mix typically includes surgical nephrology, general pathology, GI, breast, and very limited neuro pathology.
Hematopathology, including bone marrow cases, is sent to Integrated Oncology.
The provider must be comfortable with grossing, and FNA/rapid interpretation is critical.
Pathologists can expect to spend three to four hours grossing every third day.
They follow a three-day rotation, receiving 200 to 250 slides on read-out day after a grossing day.
Day one includes grossing 40 to 50 cases and performing frozen sections.
There is on-call duty from 4:30 p.m. until 8:00 a.m. the following morning.
Day two involves reading out cases and ordering IHC/special stains.
Day three is dedicated to cytology, providing support for the bronch suite and reading out cytology cases.
