Job Summary The Senior Analyst, Workers' Compensation is responsible for the accounting, financial forecasting, and cost allocation activities supporting the company's large-deductible and self-insured retention workers' compensation program. Reporting to the Commercial Division Controller, this role serves as the accounting organization's subject matter expert on workers' compensation, translating actual loss estimates, third-party administrator claims data, and payroll exposure into accurate financial reporting, recorded liabilities, branch-level allocations, and burden rates used in pricing and business planning. This highly analytical accounting role ensures the accuracy, integrity, and transparency of workers' compensation financial results. This position focuses on validating operational and actuarial data, maintaining workers' compensation reserves and forecasts, supporting financial close and management reporting, and driving continuous improvements in reporting and cost allocation processes. The Senior Analyst partners closely with Risk Management, Human Resources, Operations, and Finance to provide reliable financial insights and support informed decision-making, effective cost management, and strong financial stewardship across the organization. Role & Responsibilities Own the monthly accounting close for the workers' compensation program, including reserve accruals, journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting documentation for audit and financial reporting purposes. Develop, maintain, and validate branch-level workers' compensation cost allocation methodologies that accurately distribute costs and support business performance analysis. Calculate and maintain workers' compensation burden rates used in pricing and gross margin models, partnering with Pricing and FP&A to align rates with actual loss experience and program costs. Analyze claim trends, loss development, and exposure data to forecast ultimate losses, cash requirements, and collateral needs while providing insightful variance analysis and management reporting. Support program cash flow forecasting, premium audits, collateral reviews, and actuarial studies by ensuring the accuracy and completeness of payroll, claims, and exposure data. Prepare workers' compensation schedules, disclosures, and supporting analyses for external audits, lender reporting, actuarial reviews, and other financial reporting requirements. Partner with Risk Management, Human Resources, Payroll, Operations, and third-party administrators to validate data integrity, resolve allocation issues, and improve reporting accuracy. Drive process improvements, standardization, and automation initiatives that enhance efficiency, strengthen controls, reduce manual effort, and improve the timeliness and accuracy of workers' compensation reporting. Ideal Candidate Ideal candidates will have experience in: Workers' compensation accounting Insurance accounting or risk finance Self-insured or large deductible insurance programs Financial forecasting and reserve analysis Month-end close, accruals, and account reconciliations Claims data analysis and actuarial reporting Cost allocations and burden rate development Advanced Excel and financial modeling Preferred Education and Experience Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related analytical field. 3+ years of progressive experience in accounting, financial analysis, insurance accounting, risk finance, or a related discipline. Demonstrated experience managing accruals, journal entries, account reconciliations, and other activities within a structured monthly close process. Experience supporting workers' compensation, insurance, risk management, actuarial, or self-insured programs. Familiarity with large-deductible or self-insured retention insurance structures. Experience working with claims data, actuarial reports, third-party administrator loss runs, or risk management information systems. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret large data sets, work through incomplete or inconsistent information, and develop well-supported conclusions. Proven ability to document assumptions, reconcile analyses to financial records, and ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial results. Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present financial analyses and explain cost allocation methodologies to both financial and non-financial stakeholders. Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and operate effectively in a fast-paced environment. Demonstrated discretion and professionalism in handling confidential employee, payroll, and claims-related information. Travel Requirements Minimal to no travel expected for the position. This range does not include any other benefits that an individual may be eligible for. The actual base salary offered depends on a variety of factors, which may include as applicable, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job.
